Maytag top load washing machine 2 years old

Hi,

This could be partly the clutch/break assy. You need to be able to run this with the lid open in the spin position. Activte the lid switch with a pencil or something. Reach in and hold the spin basket and then turn the washer on in spin. Hold this basket for 1-2 minutes then release it and let it reach full speed then stop the washer by turning the timer off or releasing the lid switch. See if the hard breaking/noise is better. Keep doing this untill it comes to a smooth stop and the noise is gone at the stop. Not sure this will cure the noise in the spin starting up problem or not, but start here. the clutch gets rust on the pads and this burnishes the break pads, removing this rust that makes it grab.

Goodluck..

My 2 year old Samsung front loader washing machine will not spin the water out, it just sits there and hums

if its spinning but no water comes out then most likely the cause of that is that the pump is either on its way out and can no longer pump the water out or its plugged with something most likely a sock or some other debris...
if the washer does not spin at all then something is most likely jammed or another mechanical failure.. front load washers can be problematic especially if you don't go easy on the load size so id suggest having a repair man fix...its not recommended trying to do it yourself

Frieght train noise through the house

Sounds like the drum bearings have gone. Replacement in the uk would cost aroung £130 as it is very labour intensive.
Would not recommend it on a 6yr old machine as other problems may not be too far off.
Hope this helps & thankyou for using Fixya.

Old model rca washer machine...will not agitate/wash the clothes, does spin.

If the washer fills up with water and you hear the motor running but the agitator doesn’t move, the agitator coupling is the most likely problem. First pump the water out by turning the timer to spin. Once the water is out, turn the washer off. Now pull up on the agitator until it comes off (it may be hard to pull off). Now that the agitator is off, you can see the agitator coupling, reach down and try to turn the coupling. If the coupling turns freely, it is striped out and needs to be replaced.
