It shouldn't hurt to leave it on all the time. I leave mine on all of the time. Make sure that you have it on a hard surface like a desk. Don't leave it on something soft, like a carpet or couch. That should keep it cool enough.
If you do leave it on all of the time, I'd suggest shutting it down at least once a week. That will help to clear out a lot of software garbage that collects over time.
Also, check that your power supply is on a hard surface and check it from time to time to make sure that it is not hot. Some of the HP power supplies have a tendency to get too hot, if you leave it on all of the time.

Hi, i purchased a dell inspiron laptop a few years ago from a little computer shop in the high street, i now have a problem where it is asking for a system password or administrater password to continue. I...

You will have to "clear the CMOS" to remove the password. This involves taking the laptop apart far enough that you can remove the little battery in the motherboard. Once the battery has been out for about 10 minutes, stick it back in and the motherboard will have forgotten the password. Be very careful when working on the inside of the laptop, the plastic parts are usually very fragile and you need to remove the ac adapter and battery before you begin. You also have to keep yourself static electricity free by periodically touching something that is metal and grounded.
Good luck.

You could use System Recovery to get your PC to factory settings, and with this you'll get the OEM Windows license again, this function is available when computer boots, but if you've formatted, changed partitions or installed a different operating system, maybe System Recovery couldn't be available.

You should take out the cover in the back, it has 5-6 screws i dont remember exactly. Then, you will see the cooler fan and most probably you will see it is full of dust. The cooler is also fixed with 2 more screws, so take them of and clean all the dust. dont use water...etc It should solve the problem, i had the same.

Depending upon the brand, there is a key combination, which will usually take you to the manufacturer's "hidden partition." In those circumstances, there will then be a series of options, including rebuilding the computer as if it has just come out of the box. Doing something similar, but not destroying the files you may have created - DOCs, XLSs, etc - since buying the laptop.
Basically, if you use that key combination, you can rebuild your laptop as if it has just been taken out of the box from the store, and then you will have to start all over again, and again ... as if you have just taken it home from the store.
My suggestion is that if this laptop is only one month old, and whatever happened to it was something you caused to happen, as opposed to it being a problem caused by a bad computer, then restart the computer as if it was just brought home.
It will take time to redo things, but you will be happier, in that you will have a brandy new PC all over again.
I did this about three separate times after buying my Acer two years ago, knowing that the problems were of my own creation, not something that was caused by a bad computer.
Since then, almost exactly two years ago, I have been extremely pleased with this laptop and, as a professional systems consultant, am confident when asked what brand laptop I recommend to a client, responding that they can buy an Acer. It is less expensive than a Lenovo or an HP – HP being one which I also recommend – and just as reliable as anything else on the market.
So go ahead, rebuild, and have fun! It actually helps you to learn more about your new system along the way. And learning is fun, too!

The Disk is write-protected. Remove the write-protection

only thing that i can think of at the moment that would do that is that you dont have the correct permissions to write on external drives..can you see wats in the drive may i ask? if you can but can not write to the disk it might be that ur account is denying you access to write to removable media. its not a virus btw, virus dont limit write permissions. do me a favor when u connect another device right click it and click properties see wat you see on the bottom if the box read is the only one checked that means you dont have the permissions to access the drive...if read and write are clicked then your account on the machine is limited and try an administrator account

ITS A HP NOTEBOOK

This should be covered under warrant.
For the slow problem, you can either upgrade the memory chips, or download a free program called "glary utilites" which will clean the registry and optimize the computer.

If it has a one year warranty, I would send it back and get something different.

Acer Aspire 5920 start up problem

Hi there.

Ok. When you turn on the laptop, press F2 to enter the setup. Have a look through these settings for something called D2D Recovery. Make sure this is Enabled. Save your settings and exit. When the laptop reboots, press the keys to start the recovery program.

Let me know if this does/doesn't work.

External graphic card

no, if your notebook has onboard graphics, you can only benefit by fitting more memory, so as the notebook can use the 64mb maximum without stalling your notebook, but the graphics will be no better, unless you have a corrupt driver, you will need to visit the notebooks manufacturer web site for any updates.
