Some of the updates may get stuck in the midway. If you can, wait for some more time. Else, you can turn off the power. The update will happen again in the next shut down operation and might finish without being stuck in the midway.

Please turn the computer off and leave it off for 30 seconds. When you turn it back on, please keep pushing the F8 key on your keyboard when you push the power button on for about 15 seconds, Please select where it says safe mode with network and press enter, then if needed let it load up and log into your account. It should install the updates and apply them again after you restart the computer from safe mode. After it installs and your back to your main screen, restart the computer one last time and it will install all updates properly.

I began update. Phone is frozen on iTunes plug in screen

Try holding down your power button and home button at the same time for about 10 seconds. If that does not work, you could try to hold them both down for about 3 seconds then let go of the power button and continue to hold down the home button for about 7 seconds.

T43 screen dims and laptop will not shut down

The screen will dim on battery power to save energy. The power settings, found when you right click the power icon in taskbar notification area and go to power options, can be changed to your personal preferences. The shut down issue may be what is running, I can't say what is running, but look at the Start up process in MSCONFIG and shut down what is not necessary at Start UP. Look at tutorials on Faster Start up and Shut down. There may be many items you can shut down/disable to speed up these events. QUESTION: Is this a upgrade to WIN 7 Ultimate, If so your computer me be a bit short on specs, in other words you have reached the computers hardware limits. How much RAM, CPU speed...etc.

Computer will not start up only sometimes after it sits for days but after shut dowm wont start up again

Try performing a hard reset on the laptop by removing the battery, unplugging the Power Adapter and disconnecting external devices connected to the laptop. Once everything is removed/disconnected, press and hold the power button for around 15 seconds. Put everything back then power the PC on. The reason this issue happens is because the computer doesn't shut down properly and because of this charges get left on the laptop's motherboard, holding power button down with nothing connected to the PC drains these charges. If still the same issue exists, try updating Windows, there might be updates that doesn't install completely. Update drivers as well and run a system scan with your security software.

Hope this help. Goodluck!

I have an Acer Aspire One. The screen says it is "configuring Windows updates 30% complete". It has been like this for hours and I can't turn it off or go to another screen. What should I do?

hi

well i guess by now that the acer has run outta of battery if you still cant stop it manualy then i would unplug the electric power cord and let the battery run out and then the laptop would shut down

and when this happens plug the power cord back in to recharge the laptop and switch back on and hopefully windows will sort it out

if it dosent then i would be tempted to do a system restore back to before the updates and try the updates again

as long as you are not having a hardware issue, windows 7 fixes alot of vistanogo's problems. i would recommend windows 7 professional for mixed home office use and 64 bit. if you are having alot of blue screens, i recommend trying to reload windows to factory settings. the 0(zero) key is the one you press and hold with eht battery out and connected to dc power to get to the restore partition. follow the prompts and reinstall. if this works reinstall all the updates for vista up to and to include service pack 2. then purchase windows 7(do not recommend pirated software because of the risk of viruses and errors). install the update to windows 7 option and repost on your findings.

I was running the program "windon Defender" on it and walked away. When I returned the computer was off and wasn't turn back on.

The Windows Defender Application is the Antivirus Software which will be pre-installed with the Windows Operating System(Windows Vista, Windows 7).
The Computer will always Shut down after any Windows Updates or any Operating System Updates are downloaded and installed.
If you are connected to the Internet and running Windows Defender, the Computer will automatically download the Updates for the Windows Defender Application.
Once the Updates are downloaded and installed, the Computer will prompt for a shut down.
The count down will be for 10 seconds.
After 10 seconds, the Computer will install the downloaded Updates and shut down.
This might be the reason for the Computer to shut down while using the Windows Defender.

If the Computer still shuts down randomly, the issue might be due to overheating.
All the Processors in Notebooks are designed to shut down automatically, if there is any overheating issues.
The overheating issue mainly occurs due to the malfunction of the Cooling fan.
If the Computer shuts down frequently, the issue might be due to the above factors.
It would be better to get the Unit examined at the Service Center.
