Just bought Netgear GS605 so I can use the internet while my partner is playing xbox live. Everything seems to work fine as long as it's the first thing turned on, if you try to use both at the same time, whichever one was connected 2nd won't connect. We assume this is something to do with ip but can't seem to figure out how to solve it. Please help...Thanks..cheryl

Connect back the computer to the router and modem to router,
then try and ping your router from the pc . go start, run, cmd, enter
at the command line type ping 192.168.0.1 if that is the gateway ip which is your router ip(what ever your router ip is it usally tells you in the manual).
ip you can't ping your router has lost its mind, try entering the setup
for your router by typing in the routers ip address in the browser, follow the setup according to manufacture, do a firmware upgrade while there, reboot the router, and that should work.

if you had power outages recently the router is probably fried so you can have it for breakfast. lol

let me know if this helps. smiles

The Netgear GS605 is a network *switch*, it cannot share internet access from one modem to the LAN. I needs NAT (Network Address Translation) in order to allow multiple computers to access the internet. The Switch is best used adding more ports to a router which is a different device than then GS605 switch. I'm using that device right now but piggy backing to a router in order for several of my computers to access the internet. My setup is a bit 'special' as most people do just fine with a router.

How to network two computers and one printer trough a netgear FS105 switch?

Connect your two computers to netgear swtich with Ethenret lan cable into LAN port.
Then set ip address in both computer in network adapter property same subnet mask and gateway ip is different .
Means if you give ip 192.168.1.10 to 1 computer you can give ip 192.168.1.11 to another computer.
Then both computer are in network.
Then if your printer is network printer then you can connect your printer with lan cable to switch then set ip ion printer same way.
But if you haven;t network printer then you can connect printer into 1 computer then share your printer in contol panel->printer and faxes if you use windows then right click on printer icn then click on share so you can use it in network.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Do network switchs allow multiple online use.. i have a netgear gs605 5 port giga switch ...will it rout with games and pc

Switches will not allow multiple computers to talk to each other for games without the combined use of a router UNLESS you assign each a static IP address and identical subnet masks. You won't be able to use multiple computers no the internet unless you get a router. So....you should get a router. There are great Linksys ones for $50 or less that also have wireless builtin, I would recommend getting on of those.

One computer connected the other limited or no connectivity

When using a router your IP is assigned to your Router. Then Your router assigns IP's to whatever is hooked up to it. Set everthing to detect automaticly. Might delet connection and create a new one.

Router failed numerous times so i bought a netgear fs605 5 port switch to hard wire in a ps3 and my dell lap top. can only run one or the other. not both at the same time. what is wrong?

The FS605 is a switch, not a router. You can only run one device at at time because you only have one ip address. You need a router between the internet and your switch if you want to use more than one device at a time.
