I have bought a new ink cartridge, inserted it and the fax machijne displays the message INSTALL INK CARTRIDGE. I have switched off reinstalled it etc but the same message appears. I cannot recieve fax confirmations of copy but obviously can send OK. Help please

there is a button on the front pannel. change ink. press it. open the front pannel. take cartride out and put new one in. close front panel. printer will ask if it is a new or old cartridge. 1 for new 2 for old.
If you replaced an ink cartridge while Near Empty was displayed on the LCD, the LCD may ask you to verify that it was a brand new one. Example: Did You Change Blck? 1.Yes 2.No. For each new cartridge you installed, press 1 on the dial pad to automatically reset the ink dot counter for that color. If the ink cartridge you installed is not a brand new one, please be sure to select 2. WARNING If ink gets in your eyes, irrigate them with water immediately and call a doctor if you are concerned. If you wait until Ink Empty message is displayed on the LCD, the machine will automatically reset the ink dot counter. If the Install message is on the display after you have installed ink cartridges, check that the ink cartridges are installed properly.
If the Toner Low/Empty message does not automatically clear when a new cartridge is installed, use the following to clear the message manually:
1.Press MENU # 1 9 3 4. The machine should display TECH. 2.Press MENU, and ENTER. The machine should display TECH Mode. 3.Press the left arrow < once. The machine will show NEW CARTRIDGE. 4.Press ENTER, the machine will show YES. 5.Press ENTER, there should not be any Toner Low/Empty message. 6.Exit TECH MODE, press MENU # 1 9 3 4. The machine will no longer display TECH.
If Toner Low/Empty message continues, there may be a problem with the toner cartridge or the machine.
Some brands of fax machines and all-in-one printer/scanner/fax/copiers need the ink cartridge to be present and have some ink in it to perform functions which don't actually require ink.
My dad bought a Brother all-in-one, and he is unable to scan or send faxes unless he replaces an empty ink cartridge first. If you have a Brother fax machine, I'd suggest returning it and buying a different brand. They waste ink on unnecessary cleaning procedures and force you to buy more for stuff that doesn't need ink.
That means that your fax machine is not recognising the cartridge. Either is not been put correctly or the cartridge suport is broken. Try with the old cartridge or with the new one use a bit of tape to old it against the contacts of suport cartridge. GOOD LUCK.
