If the book says each slot will only take 1 GB then the slot will only take 1 GB. Since the book and the motherboard are made by ASUS, they know what they are doing, so the book is right.

you may try and make sure that the cpu fan is functional and tightly attached to the cpu's surface
if the VGA card is not built-in, also try to remove it and clean its slot

How much can you upgrade memory (RAM) in a asus p4vp-mx motherboard. There are 2 slots with 256K each (128 pin, I think)

The Asus P4VP_MX has two slots for DDR2 SDRAM and supports a maximum 2G of memory, 1G per slot.

My motherboard cd of asus m2n mx se series nvidia is broken so

You can call Asus and buy a new CD at 1-812-282-2787 US.
Or you can download the drivers directly from Asus and burn the drivers to CD/DVD-ROM disk. Link to Asus motherboard M2M-MX SE;

Yes both of them are compatible, The 8500 GT uses a PCI X16 slot which is available on the m2n-mx motherboard.

Mother board problem

Hello my name is Tim Ehrhart, I think you may need to check into re-installing your drivers for the mother board http://driver-pro.com/related/english/hardware-drivers/?hit=1&sofl=11&adurl=12131 also if there is a second express card slot you may try using that one as it could be the slave slot. I hope this helps you, please feel free to ask more questions, I will try to andswer asap.

Getting a blue screen

first off, try just one mem stick in slot 1, if the m/c comes up with bad bios checksum then you have a faulty bios, updating this to v0403 should sort out your problems. oh but make sure when you update you dont have any mem in slot 1 because it wont work. if you still having problems then take it back to where you bought it from and get a different board.
