Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a Magic Chef compact fridge. There was a lot of ice build up in the freezer compartment. I attempted to defrost it last night, but I also tried to break away the ice before it was completely defrosted. Now today the whole fridge is not getting cold, and the motor in the bottom back of the fridge is fairly hot. Have I broken the fridge? Is it unsafe to leave it plugged in to see if it will kick in. The motor sounds like it is working the same way it sounded before I attempted defrostation last night. HELP

Either the defrost heater element or defrost thermostat is open behind the rear wall where all the ice buildup was and is bad or the defrost timer in the front area isn't working to defrost the unit on a 12 hour schedule, you will need to test each component

Have magic chef fridge w top freezer. Model number ctf2124ar. Ice build up in freezer near vents where fan blows air. Keeps coming back after I remove it. Anybody know what,s going on w it?

Ice build up in the freezer is usually caused by one of these problems. You may have an outside air leak from one of the door gaskets. Check the gaskets for proper seal and any cuts or pieces missing. Second possible problem may be your refrigerator is not self defrosting as it should. Cause of this could be a burned out defrost heater. With a bad defrost system, you normally will start to have your fresh food temps start to increase over time( about a week) and some food spoilage.

Freezer stays cold, lower unit does not

you need to check the proper operation of the evap fan motor in the freezer compartment make sure the unit is in a cooling mode open the freezer door and listen for the fan.if it is turning youmay have a lot of ice build up on the evaprator and needs to be defrosted you may need to check the defrost circuit.
if the fan is not running replace it

Ice build up in freezer...Auto Defrost not working Model unknown...smaller model...about 5 feet tall...2 feet wide...freezer on top..no ice maker. Bought in 2002....noise during defrost quit about 2 months...

If it is a magic chef the model number will be on the back of the fridge and will have to order the exact defrost timer for this model. Only place to get will be from repairclinic.com

How do I set the temperature?

Hello Elise, The Dial should be set to the middle number three (3) to start with and allow for 24 hours of running before you make any adjustments, either up or down.

The higher the number the colder the fridge temperature will be. Just remember that it takes almost a full day for the fridge compensate for any changes to the thermostat. Also, only make adjustments in the temperature setting by only 1 increment at a time (either up or down) and again, allow 24 hours before making further changes.

If your fridge has the red button in the center of the temperature dial, that is the manual defrost button. So if you've got a build up of ice on the freezer section, just push it and it will defrost the unit for up 2-4 hours.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!
Merry Christmas!

Freezers cold but refrigerators warm

see if there is a big block of ice on the back plate in your frige, if there is then your thermostat is set to cold or broken. if no ice in the frige then it has a gas leak!

Our Magic Chef fridge model # MCBR1000W does not seem to be keeping the fridge part cool enough, but still keeps the items in the freezer section frozen. The compressor is working, so not sure why this is...

yes the freezer door not closing properly will effect the refrigerator. also check in the freezer back wall and bottom for any frost buildup. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
