Question about Washing Machines
The grinding noise may not be in the gear box itself but in the clutch and brake assembly. The clutch must push the brake cam driver to release the brakes and allow the basket to spin. If the clutch lining is worn or clutch spring is weak, there's no enough friction between the clutch hub and the lining for them to lock up and push the brake cam driver. The clutch lining gets stuck by the brake cam driver but the clutch is spinning and result in the grinding or scraping noise.
