My mom has an XL44 electic ignition and we smell gas all the time. The maintenance guy says its normal. He says he smells gas from his too. This shouldn't be normal, right?

Intermitent gas smell

yes it is possible. a faint smell now and again from a gas stove is normal, as it has many burners to and oven. if smell is not constant, nothing to worry about.

Oven doesn't heat up

Hi, Even though your igniter is glowing it's bad..A igniter should glow brillient yellow for it to be able to light the gas...basically whats happening in your case is although the igniter is drawing the correct amps to open the gas valve it is not getting hot enough quick enough to light it..change the igniter and you should be good to go. Good Luck!!! Mike

Oven won't work

Yes. The ignitor must register 2.9 amps or more to operate correctly and ignite the gas. Replace the ignitor.

Ge xl44 gas igniter replaced, lights up but doesnt ignite gas??

Take an ampreage reading on one wire of the new igniter. It should pull at least 3.2 amps to open the valve completely. Make sure the igniter is in the path of the gas too.

Smelling gas at when stove is in prelight then going away

Welcome tkrogers,

You said, smelling gas at when stove is in Pre-light then going away.

In some stoves this is normal as long as it is a slight smell and it goes away when the stove or oven ignites.
You know gas really has no smell, but this smell is added for our safety!!
What is the Make, year ,and Model number of your range?

The gas must start somewhere until the flame ignites it.
So we smell a slight smell of gas until it burns.

Thanks,
Huuum

GE XL44 Working fine but awful burnt propane smell

Remove the burners and clean them with EASY OFF oven cleaner. The passages are likely plugged and this causes incomplete burning of the gas. If you do smell raw gas shut the gas to the stove off RIGHT AWAY and call the local gas supplier.

Gas Odor coming from oven

The reason you can't smell it when the oven is on is because the gas is being ignited. DO NOT USE YOUR STOVE until you get this fixed by a gas fitter. You have a gas leak, which is either a loose fitting or faulty valve or line.

Call your appliance dealer IMMEDIATELY or you could have an explosion!!!!
