I have a neptune mdg5500aww dryer, goes on, glowing igniter... but does not turn on the gas... what is wrong

Hello,

Their are 2 possible things wrong;

1) Does the igniter just stay on or does it glow and go off usually within 1 minute?..if the igniter just stays on and never goes off the FLAME SENSOR will be the problem
here is what the flame sensor looks like oldtech2332_86.jpg
2) if the igniter does glow then go off but no flame..the coils that open the gas valve are bad
here is what they look like oldtech2332_87.jpg

The part numbers are;

FALME SENSOR 338906

GAS VALVE COILS 279834

The parts could be ordered from your local appliance parts store or online at;

Dryer starts, but does not heat up. Igniter ignites, but no heat. Gas to rest of house is operable.

Hello,
Thier are 2 possible things causing it not to heat.

1) The flame sensor is bad..if the igniter glows BUT does not go off it will be the FLAME SERSOR that is the problem

2) the coils that open the gas valve are defective..If the igniter DOES go off but no flame it will be the gas valve coils

while i dont know what brand you have their are fairly unuvesal parts for the coils or flame sensor

Part#'s
GAS VALVE COILS 279834

FLAME SENSOR THAT FITS ON RIGHT OF BURNER TUBE WE4X448

FLAME SENSOR THAT FITS ON LEFT OF BURNER TUBE 338906

I HAVE A KENMORE 80 SERIES GAS DRYER. WHEN YOU TURN IT ON IT FIRES UP AND GETS HOT. AFTER A WHILE (5-10 MIN'S) FIRE GOSE OUT AND WILL NOT COME BACK ON.

Hello,
If what happens is the flame comes on when it first starts,after the flame goes off you see the igniter glows then goes off but no flame,the coils that open the gas valve are working while thier cool but once the dryer gets running,when warm to hot the gas valve coils wont open the gas valve so when the igniter comes on and no flame the coils have failed to open gas valve and need to be replaced, all manufactures use the same coil supplied by one parts supplier, and them not opening the valve when warm is a very common occurence regardless of what brand gas dryer it is.
The part number for the coils is 279834 they could be picked up from your local appliance parts store for under $20 or online at;

Maytag LDG7500AAL dryer ignitor lites up but burner will not lite

Hello,
Their are 2 possibilities,based on exactly what is happeninh with your dryer.
1) If after the igniter came on,it stay on for 30 seconds to 1 minute and went off,but there was no flame as soon as the igniter went off? IF that is what your seening the coilds that open the gas valve are the problem. They are the 2 pod things on the top of the gas valve one of them has a plug with 2 wires on it,the other has a plug with 3 wires.IF no flame after the igniter went out those coils need to be replaced.

2) If the igniter came on and STAYED on and never went off within 1 minute?
for that since the igniter never turns off. The problem will be the flame switch. Its the black rectangle box mounted to the outside of the burner cone and has 2 wires attached to it.If the igniter did NOT go off the flame switch will be needed

The part numbers are,

GAS VALVE COILS 279834

FLAME SENSOR 338906

The parts could be purchased at your local appliance parts store or online at;

Dryer flame starts for a few min then goes out

When it goes off will it restart immediately or do you need to allow some cool down time?

If cool down time is needed it's likely the coil kit which is part number 279834 for your model.

Other possibilities are air flow too slow causing a "lazy" flame which shuts off due to hitting safety thermostat sitting on top of the flame tunnel.
