I don't know what you have not tried. So I am sorry that my options for you are limited.
Mambo Flix comes with it's own converter to convert videos. The file format is correct but the encoding isn't. I suppose that the Mambo Flix identifies the video by attaching an identification to the video after conversion.
This model goes to "sleep" quickly by default - pressing any button will wake it up. The button that looks like a house (if the paint didn't get rubbed off already) allows you to go one level higher in the menu tree. Have fun with it.
