Question about Fuji Photography

1 Answer

I have a Fujiflim Camera, the Finepix A700. It is old, and being my on site camera in the construction industry, it is terribly dirty, and dusty. \r\nEverything works fine, except the lense won't come out. It tries, but, it just can't make it. I want to open it up, and clean it out. The screws are unfamilar to me. They are in a "Y" shape. Can anyone tell me where to get a screw driver of this type? There is no recourse to Fuji film. No blame, no un happy customer. It is just out of warranty, and if I can get it cleaned, I will give it to one of my children, and they can have another ten years of picture taking. MAS

Your camera has a lens error, this is such a common fault that I hope you don't mind me pasting my stock generic answer below. It's aimed primarily at digital camera users but the soutions are also mostly valid to your model. No point in reinventing the wheel! Note that many cheap multi-driver kits from almost any discount or hardware store will include the screw bits which you are after, but you probably don't need to open your up.

Stuck lenses are probably the most common reason that compact digital cameras get thrown away, but there's a fair chance of recovering use of your camera again

The fault is commonly caused by dirt or grit blocking the mechanism, or due to it having suffered a recent fall. Another common cause is that the camera was in a pocket or bag and the power button accidentally activated and tried to open the lens against resistance. The mechanism may have simply become dislodged or there may be parts which have broken.

If your camera is still under warranty and has definitely not been subject to misuse then contact the Fuji service department in your country to find out about a free repair. If the warranty has expired though a professional repair will far exceed the cost of replacing your camera. You will therefore have nothing to lose by trying to fix this yourself.

Please click here and you will be taken to an excellent article provided by the Camera Repair website. For the most part, you'll be guided on how to physically manipulate your camera to try and clear the fault. Although the article mentions Canon a few times, the advice applies equally to all cameras with lens errors and is not model-specific.

If the link doesn't work then cut and paste the following address into your browser:-

Good luck, I hope you manage to use this information to fix your camera. Please take a moment to rate the free answer I have provided for you and any testimonial which you might wish to add is always welcome!

Is Fuji FinePix A700 compatible with Windows 8

It doesn't matter to the camera what type of computer you have.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa.

Question #1 My FujiFilm FinePix A700 Camera Lens is stuck and it displays zoom error on screen. Question #2 My old computer broke down, I lost the Software to my A700 Camera, can I get software somewhere?...

Sorry for the delay, Fixya has changed it's format recently, and us experts are having somewhat of a difficult time getting used to it.
Answer #1: zoom errors (a.k.a lens errors) is a fairly common problem. See this link for some DIY fixes that may help.
Answer #2: Replacement camera software is usually not provided online by camera makers. Getting a replacement usually involves a search on eBay for a used disk. But recommend foregoing the software, as a much better/safer way of downloading your photos can be accomplished using a very inexpensive USB card reader. See this other link for more info.
