Look for the Fn Button bottom left of the keyboard. Hold this button down then press F5. You should see the screen flash up. Have an external monitor connected to the vga output on the back of the sharp while you try this. The Fn Key and F5 combination is used to swith modes between laptop and external monitor, Dual view etc. You should see some activity when you do this. Hope this helps you out. Ps... Using the Fn key with F6 and F7 will Alter the brightness of the screen on your laptop.

I cant fix the backlight of the lcd screen of my laptop

If the Video Cable is damaged, you may want to think about obtaining a new one.

Apparently your solder connections didn't work, or you haven't repaired all of the damage.

Wires could be stretched and broken inside their insulation sheath, and you may not see it.
Use a multimeter, and perform a continuity test of each wire.

Inside the sheath of the Video Cable are wires that lead from the motherboard, and go to the screen Inverter.
You know this.

What you may not know is there are wires inside the sheath of the Video Cable, that lead to the wire/s going to the screen Inverter.
One of these wires may be damaged down in the sheath, and is not visibly apparent.

Suggest replace the Video Cable, and put your mind at ease that it is not the problem.

The CCFL in your Display Assembly is about 2mm Thick, and almost as long as the LCD screen is in height.

Not knowing the exact manufacturer and model number of the laptop;

1) I can't tell you if their is just one CCFL, or two.
The CCFL bulb should be located on one side of the LCD screen assembly. (Unless it is a dual CCFL model)

2) I can't tell you if your LCD screen backlighting is CCFL, or a series of LED lights.

It has been posted that you laptop may be a Sharp PC-GP10-CM

The wires leading to the CCFL bulb are soldered to the ends of the bulb. Perhaps there is a bad solder joint,

I would replace the Video Cable.

My daughter was trying to change her background pic and the color and look of the taskbar. Now the screen loads black and you can see nothing that you click on.

its a long shot but try Fn/F4
Fn is a hotkey function key that in combination with some other keys provides more options on the keyboard Fn/F4 puts the screen in sleep mode.

How do you reboot a dell netbook

Well, you can go to shutdown and then choose reboot in Windows....But to force a reboot, hold down the laptops power button for a few seconds until the system shuts down. After it has gone black for about 20 more seconds press that power button and the system will boot. Good luck!

Will not reboot

Try rebooting the Laptop and as it is booting up,keep tapping the F2 key this should bring you into the system bios.
If you can get this far,,press F10 and save,,then as it is booting again press F10 again,,this should bring up a menu choice,,choose Safe start with networking.
If you can get this far you can go to "Start" "Programs" "Accessories" then "System Tools" Then "System Restore" from here you should be able to roll your computer back to a previous date.

The display screen has turned black

When you connected the external monitor thto the laptop did it display?

If so then you have to reset the monitor port. Hold down the function key and find the FKEY that shows a picture of a monitor. Press that until you get the laptop screen back.

Typical use is:
  • 1 press = external monitor
  • 2 presses = laptop and dual monitor
  • 3 presses = just the laptop screen
