Dvd Audio Garbled

I have an XP Compaq Presario SR1950NX AMD 64 desktop computer. I am noticing as of late that each time I try to run a dvd like a fitness dvd or a dvd movie the audio quality is HORRIBLE. I originally thought my speakers were shot and changed them 2xs this did not improve. I then tried the sound quality on audio cds and it was perfect. I need to use my fitness dvds with better quality what can I do? I do not want to use them in the tv since there is no tv where I am working out. Help!

This was/is me as well.. I bought a new dvd player/burner to replace one of two that were producing garbled sound.. that worked alright for a few months and now its doing it as well. Looking for a fix.. would hate to have to get another dvd player. Ugh.

Are you using an external sound card, or is it included on the main board

Right click on My Computer, choose Properties, Hardware Tab, Device Manager. Expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, choose Secondary IDE Channel (Double Click) Advanced Settings. Current transfer mode should be highest level of DMA (if it is PIO mode that is likely your problem).
If it is PIO mode, click the driver tab and make sure the driver provider is Microsoft. If not, make sure you have the driver available. If the provider is Microsoft close out of the Secondary IDE Channel Properties window, right click on the Secondary IDE Channel in Device Manager, and choose uninstall.
Reboot the computer, then open device manager again, highlight IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, right click and choose Scan for Hardware Changes. It will find the Secondary IDE Channel and reinstall it. The transfer mode should be DMA. Your CD/DVD will play like normal.

Bigbiggs is right about the drive probably being faulty. You can pick up a new one for around 30, from microdirect

As a test, play the DVD in a standard tv type dvd player. Since the CD's sound good in your player, the sound card and speaker system as the problem is ruled out. I would suggest that U may have a problem with the DVD player in the PC. Replace with a better or have checked out and repaired/replaced by wherever U bought the Compaq.

..need drivers for old computer....

t_m_conway,

You can download the drivers to the computer you are using now.
One at a time. Keep them in one folder, where you know where they are at.

Then burn them to a disk. Many use thumb drives, but I'll pass.

Put the disk in the 'affected' computers optical drive. (CD/DVD drive)
Go to My Computer. Double-click on the drive letter, that corresponds to the optical drive.

One at a time, double-click on each file name. You are installing each driver, one at a time.

When you double-click on the individual driver file, there will be 3 small windows that come up; one at a time, and in order.

At the bottom of the 3 small windows, click on Next, Next, and Finish.
Then restart the computer.
(Start > Turn Off Computer > Restart)

Now go back, and Double-click on the next driver file. Install it.
And so on, until all driver files needed, are installed.

I appreciate you stated -
"Compaq Presario AMD Athlon 64 GE force 6150 LE"

,but in all due respect it doesn't state what is actually needed.
To break it down on what you stated,

1) Compaq - Computer manufacturer name
2) Presario - Model name
3) AMD - Processor, motherboard chipset, and graphics card manufacturer.

4) Athlon 64 - A line of AMD processors

5) GeForce 6150LE
Graphics chipset information.
The Nvidia GeForce 6150LE is a type of Integrated Graphics.

Integrated Graphics is also known as OnBoard Graphics.
ON the motherBOARD.

Indicates for one, that the graphics chipset is soldered directly to the motherboard, and not a separate graphics adapter card; which is removable.
Therefore replaceable. (Upgrade)

What is needed here, t_m_conway, is the model number.

This can be found on the Back of the computer, in a white Service Tag.
For Compaq computers, and HP computers, it is the Product Number that is needed. Model number information is contained in it, also.

P/N = Product Number.

'Armed' with this information I can guide you step by step, and not post a bunch of generic 'prattle', as I have above.

It is my belief that once you see an example, detailed out on here; that it will become sparkling clear as how to proceed.

Please post back in a Comment.

I need to know if the dvd drive for my Compaq Presario SR1403WM Desktop PC runs on a scsi connection system.

The computers compartibilties are ascertainable by powering on to observe the system features once settings are displayed. Also, connect hardwares to the computer to ascertain the condition of display since the manufacturer may least have recognised useer request to several device connection.
