Here are some steps that you can follow
1. Make sure that the USB point is working fine, you can check it by plugging any other UPnP device like printer etc.
2. Also make sure that the memory stick is itself working fine , you can check this by inserting it in any other computer.
3. Try to check it an all the USB points.
4. Goto My computer >> ( If u are able to see the icon for the USB memory stick, right click on it and click on open and check whether you are able to open it , or you can browse through My computer >> c: >> windows >> explorer and then see whether you are able to open it.

Error code ME516-12 ON MY COMPAQ PRESARIO PC

The error code you are getting indicates issues with physical memory (RAM) of the computer.
You need to open the device and see if there are two memory sticks inside. If you have two sticks, try to start the computer with one memory stick at a time. This way you will come to know which of the memory stick is gone bad.
Note: make sure every time you replace any part completely turn off the computer.

For any further assistance feel free to revert.

When I start-up my Compaq Presario S4200NX - I get the Compaq logo and a continuous beep and it doesn't go any further. I've read some posts and its pointing to the memory card being bad. Is this the case?

It is possible that the memory sticks(RAM) are busted or cannot be read anymore. If you have multiple memory sticks, try isolating the damaged memory stick by using 1 memory stick at a time and try starting your computer up. Once you have found the busted one, try replacing it with a new one.

Hope this helps!

COMPAQ PRESARIO SR1420NX, TRYS TO POWER UP BUT GREEN LIGHT ON FRONT POWER BUTTON JUST FLASHES..

Could be one of two things: either the power supply is going bad or the RAM is either going bad or isn't seated properly inside.

First thing I would try would be to re-seat all the memory chips inside the computer. There could be up to 4 sticks of memory in some computers. If this doesn't work, try pulling the memory out of the computer one stick and a time and booting the PC. If it boots, you've found your bad memory stick. Put all the others back in and replace the faulty one.

If none of this works, you might consider calling HP (maker for compaq) for support on getting the power supply replaced.

How do you open a compaq presario sr1630nx computer to install memory upgrades

Viewing the back of your computer, you will see a large thumb screw, on the right side of the computer case.

It's to the right of that round ventilation opening. (Round shape with multiple holes in it)
Unscrew the thumb screw to the Left, to loosen it.

The side panel that the thumb screw is in, pulls back towards the rear of the computer.
If you look, there is a place to put your fingers at the end of the side panel.
(Raised 'Hump' in the sheet metal of the panel)

Hold the top of the computer case with one hand, pull the side panel back with the other hand.

NOTE*
The computer MUST be unplugged from power before proceeding!

Not only is there a possible issue for Your safety, but also the computer's!
You will fry out the Ram Memory stick/s if you remove, or install with the computer plugged into power.

Also,......there is an Anti-Static issue that needs to be addressed, BEFORE you reach inside your computer

Your body carries Static electricity.
Static will fry out the hardware components inside a computer.
(In a Flash!)

Work on a table. Computer unplugged from power, computer case open. TOUCH the metal frame of the computer case BEFORE you reach inside.

TOUCH the metal frame Before, you take those ram sticks out of their protective antistatic bags.

Should you get up for any reason, walk away, then return, Touch the metal frame again.

Refrain from touching the gold plated contact pins, on the bottom of the ram stick.
You can handle the ram stick anywhere, but on those contact pins.
The ram stick is coated with a see-through plastic.
The contact pins are not.

Should you need advice on how to remove, and install ram memory, please state so in a comment. (Top right of page)

USB port

Have you confirmed that none of them work? Do the USB ports show up in device manager (look for USB Root Hub entries).

If all else fails, you could always buy an internal PCI card that has USB ports on the backplane.

Does your digital camera have an SD card or other memory slot that you could simply plug into your desktop to transfer your pictures?
