Alot of Laptops have the Operating System Embedded on the Hard Drive, which you would need the System Disks that came with the laptop, otherwise Try Right Clicking on the Drives ICON in My COmputer..... You will get a Format option there...

to format a computer, go to start, then click all programs, accessories, then RIGHT CLICK command prompt. RIGHT CLICK. hit run a administrator. then when the black window pops up, type:
format x
replace x with whatever drive you want to format. hope I helped.
You will probably need to remove the drive and use another computer to format it.
You can buy an adapter to connect it to another pc as a USB drive and format it this way.
They are not very expensive.

Format and reinstall this headache
Format the drive in another computer first(quicker)
then reinstall back to thinkpad
try reload the system after the format
Dont forget to save your files first before format

I am assuming you will be putting Windows back on your computer. If that is true, just put your Windows disk into your laptop and reboot. A setup menu will start and you will eventually be prompted to choose a partition to install on. Choose the C: drive and then another menu will ask if you want to format using FAT or NTSC. It may also ask either Quick or Full format. If you want a thorough format, choose full and NTSC. Otherwise just choose the Quick and NTSC. Your drive will then be formated and a fresh copy of Windows. I hope this helps.
