Question about ViewSonic Pro VP2130b 21.3" LCD Monitor

Open Question

I have a viewsonic VP2130B monitor and it has started going blank on me. Meaning it works then the screen goes dark. Then when i am using it for a while the screen starts to zap and these lines (rainbow colors) start to zigzag across my screen, flickering.... I let it rest for 2 to 3 hrs then i can work on it again. Then it starts up on me. What is the problem. Is it the screen itself, the connection. ( though i have changed the cable itself). Or is it my video card. Or just the screen is finished. My monitor is at least 5 yrs old. thank you let me know what i can do and if it is the monitor.

SOURCE: screen size change itself

I think the problem is not your monitor itself . the real problem is your video card, maybe the video card is damage or the video card driver is corrupted. Try to re install the video card driver. In the run type DEVMGMT.MSC hit enter . If the device manager windows open select and double click the DISPLAY ADAPTER delete the video display model and click ACTION, SCAN HARDWARE CHANGES the windows automatic search for the driver and install it but sometime you need to insert the cd driver. If you dont have a video driver with you look in the internet for the model of your video card.

SOURCE: ViewSonic 19" flat screen monitor goes black - intermittently

Hi,
There could be a problem with your display card settings or the display card itself. If you are using Windows operating system, make sure that you have the monitor driver installed for that specific monitor. This is to ensure that Windows only allows settings for which your particular monitor was designed.
Let me know if I can assist you any further regarding this.
Best wishes,
Graemevm

SOURCE: Viewsonic VP2130B no Video

First off, on these monitors, usually the power board is also the inverter board. If its not on this model monitor, and you know that by opening it up and seeing the backlight cables connected to a different board, than that may be the problem, but it might not be.

Secondly, Why did you replace the power supply? Were you not getting anything? power light? anything at all?

If you were getting the power light, but no picture (black screen), something else was most likely the problem.

Your problem is probably the backlight. It sounds like its out. Does the backlight come on at all? If it doesn't and you can faintly see an image if you look closely or if you press the menu buttons and see a faint change in the screen, thats the problem. Normally I would say its either the power board OR the backlight, but you say you replaced the power board. You need to replace your backlight. You can do that a couple different ways:

1) Replace the whole LCD panel. This is a costly fix, so if you are adventurous and cheap like me I would advise against it.

2) Replace the backlight panel. You need a screen like yours that is broken, but has a good backlight. That way you get it cheap, because its broken and beyond taking everything apart and putting it back together again, its relatively simply.

3) Fix the backlight you have. There are tutorials on how to do this online, but its harder and more dangerous (mercury and toxins that can cause lots of damage). I wouldn't do this, but if you want to I would suggest doing it in a place with lots of ventilation.

There could possibly be a problem with your mainboard, especially if you see no image AT ALL and you don't see a backlight. If your power board/inverter and backlight are fine, you should see the backlight on, regardless of the condition of the mainboard. If you see the backlight, then the mainboard is the problem. If your power board failed, and the power light wasn't coming on before, its possible that the board fried your mainboard and potentially your backlight (although damaging your backlight is rather unlikely).

In any case, good luck to you!

Are you sure that your computer isn't just going into power saving mode? Not sure what operating system you have but go into the screen savers tab or video properties and find out how your system is set up for power saving It may be starting before your screen saver does so the monitor would just go black.

Your monitor sounds like it has gone bad. Cost for a repair is not worth it, a new one would be cheaper. Prices have gone down a lot in three years

Here is a suggestion:
By looking at the power board you should see the light, and where it is connected to, so diagnose the circut from that point foreward eliminating any potential of damging the board. try any cables or ribbons.

I notice a difference in the setup of the two monitors, have you installed the correct driver for the new screen?

Try F8 on startup to get into safe mode, this should allow you to use the default VGA screen, and to reset the correct monitor drivers.

Viewsonic VG 900 displays briefly, then goes blank

What Usually causes these to go on and off quickly is one af a couple things.

Usually it is the powerboard not putting out enough power to run the video board and the inverter.

Sometimes it is the actual inverter board. I have seen a plain small fuse stop these cold.

Rarely, but it could be a bad bulb in the screen. Bad bulbs usually start dark in the middle, or they start off pink. They can also flicker while they are on.

If you can take it apart and have a dc tester, the problem may be able to be found.
I repair some viewsonics , mostly VXs series, but I have done a couple of these.

Am I correct in understanding that your MacBook is operating properly, but when you attach your external monitor it doesn't show anything?
I often connect my black MacBook 2GHz to my flat screen's VGA port. Sometime the screen doesn't respond for one reason or another. The fastest solution is typically to mirror the screens then return to normal. When that doesn't work, it's usually enough to restart the MacBook while it's still plugged in to the external monitor. If neither of those work, try connecting to a different monitor or finally try replacing the connector.
Unfortunately those connectors don't have the best life spans. (See Apple's customer reviews on DVI connectors.)
