Howdy, depending on what you mean by 'several", the unit may simply have reached the end of its service life. The dry clunky sound you describe does match worn carriage behavior. It may well be worth having it professionally serviced, but there are some very good prices at the moment on newer faster quieter models that use less ink. If you have not done so, it doesn't hurt to open the hood and blow the whole thing out well with canned air. It may make some difference. Some of the moving parts can be re-lubricated, but this is a little tricky as it must not get on certain parts. I recommend a pro if you go this way. Farmerbear at FixYa
