Question about Maytag Washing Machines

1 Answer

My maytag washing machine leaked a small amount of oil when we transported it from a Sears store. The amount of oil was less than an ounce. We did lay the machine on its back while transporting it less than 2 miles. The Sears store assured us that laying it on its back would pose no problem, what-so-ever. Should the machine have leaked oil?

Where to get replacement hoses to pump.

I would go to your local hardware store to see if you can replace it for less. If you can bring it in with you that would be best. Otherwise Google sears parts and find the part online to order.

Selenoid valve leaking. Could be a rubber washer or complete valve or very low water pressure.

Seal a round shaft of transmission leaking what oil does the transmission require

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive washer.

See the following Whirl[pool parts list for their commercial washers although the consumer models use the same transmission and parts.

The part you need is probably the 3349985 Seal, Gearcase
Cover, a relatively cheap part.

I've found that basic 80-90 weight non-detergent gear oil ( available at auto parts stores) seems to work well. It's certainly less expensive than the gearcase oil from Sears.

Maytag MAV6000Aww washer-loud noise when spinning

Chances are it is not the tub. It is probably the transmission. It has been my experience that the transmission bearing starts to make noise. Look under the unit to see if you can spot any transmission oil. If there is oil, it's time to start shopping for a new unit.

Oil leak

A small amount is not serious. There is no good way of adding oil to the transmission unless you want to take the top off the transmission.
