Question about LG DH30 GoldStar Dehumidifier

1 Answer

Capacitor... discharge it?

Tried the ol' bucket switch, not stuck and seems fine. For a short time I could get the fan to come on, but now can't even get that. What's the easiest way to discharge/test the capacitor? Thanks for your time with this matter, amazing that there is NO service to be found for these dehumidifiers (might just be that it's southern Vermont and have very few humans out here anyway).

The easiest way to is to short it out across the two terminals with an insulated screw driver. Then you use your meter to test it. http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/captest.htm#ctsaf

Just looking at the wiring diagram, there is a fuse on the board itself, you would have to replace the board if it was blown as I don't think it is replacable. The part number is 6871A30032B

Eddie, turn the unit OFF & unplug it. Then remove the bucket and check the float valve in the top of the bucket. It may be stuck in the 'UP' position or is broken. When reinstalling the the bucket, be sure that it fit's "squarely" from top to bottom in the bucket holder and is making firm contact with the bucket safety removal switch on the rear wall of the bucket holder.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

My WHD928 won't start. Plugged in, tank is in correctly- but no go. The lights don't even come on. Is it terminal??

I hope it's not terminal, as Windchaser is no longer in business. Remove and check the top of the water collection bucket for a float valve. It may be stuck in the "UP" position. If it is, jiggle the arm to make it return to the "Down". While you have the bucket out, look inside the bucket holder. On the rear wall of the holder you should see the bucket removal safety switch. It should look like a plastic trigger switch. With the unit ON, activate the switch with your finger. If the unit does not turn ON, then the switch is at fault. If it turns ON, then the bucket was not making contact with it, when it was last reinstalled. Reinstall the bucket "squarely" from top to bottom into it's holder. Making sure that it does not tilt down at the bottom when installed and makes contact with the switch.

If the unit did not turn On when you tried to activate the Bucket Removal Safety Switch, it's time to start shopping for a new dehumidifier. As there are no parts available for Windchaser units.

I hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

The compressor is not starting, either the start components (relay and capacitor) have failed or the compressor is no good.

The bucket full light flashes even though its empty and inserted correctly and the humidity level is stuck at 1%. The unit as a whole just seemed to stop working.

I have the exact same problem. I suspect this is the same as the "CH 01" problem others had with a different unit that seemed to be the bucket switch. I still need to confirm.

LG LHD30 the compressor does not cycle on

Compressor won’t Start
The Main reasons that this will happen
1 - A bad run capacitor (silver or metal capacitor)
It’s either shorted, grounded or open.
If it’s shorted a lot of times it will bulge out, (sometimes slightly)
2 - A bad start kit ( plastic capacitor and Relay connected to it )
The capacitor is either shorted or open
The relay either has an open coil between terminals #1 and #5
Or the relay is stuck.
Any time you change the capacitor or relay you should change
the other, especially if they are over a year old.
3 - A loose, burnt or disconnected wire
4 - Wired wrong
5 Compressor is open (windings burnt open)
6 Low on charge not getting enough cooling back to compressor, (Feel top of compressor to see if it’s hot it shouldn‘t be)
7 Some compressors have a black plastic overload under the compressor cap which could be bad.

Unfortunately this is quite common for most DH's of this type. The only one that I have found that does not have a reputation for losing the fan or compressor after a year or two is the Whirlpool.
