SMEG SA420X I have a smeg oven SA420X, multi functional oven. The clock has melted due to grilling with the door open. Is this a common issue?, or is this a user fault? My tenant has stated that the smeg is one of the only ovens, that need the door to be closed? is this true? what other ovens require the door to be closed wilst grilling?

Not too common at all.Tough call ,you really can't hold the tenant at fault, replace the over priced clock and inform the tenant that the next one THEY will have to pay for.

I have this oven in a tenanted unit as well, and had the same issue. Tenant grilled with door oven, melted the clock where the buttons no longer moved. Pulled the buttons out, used a drill to very slightly drill out some of the plastic socket that holds the buttons, but now the buttons are too loose and fall out. Still better then buttons not working at all.

I had the same problem. You need to keep the door closed when you use the grill, otherwise danger of melting clock. It happened to my oven.

I have a smeg A42-5 oven and the digital clock as gone blank and i'm unable to use the oven but the grill still works. can anyone help?

Hi There
I have found this for to read and hope this will help you. Let me know how it goes.
The clock stopped The non-electronic clocks on electric range/ovens often don't last long. That's a problem, because the clock is essential to the self-cleaning and timed-bake features. Clocks are rarely repairable--you usually just have to replace them. Electronic clocks have been more reliable. But, they're often integrated with several other features of the range/oven. So when the clock develops a defect, it often renders the entire oven and broiler inoperative. The electronic clock is usually integrated with a circuit board, and the touchpad that holds the buttons you press is often a separate component. If your electronic clock is defective, you may need to replace the touchpad, circuit board, or both. Although these may be expensive, they aren't usually very complicated to replace.
Thank you for writing to fix ya.
Best Regards Richard

Smeg oven and hob ubit: Fan works but oven wont heat up

This tutorial will show you how to check your Smeg element and how to replace your Smeg cooker element.
Here are the 3 main faults to look for in your oven or cooker that is not heating
  1. Your oven will not work until the clock/timer has been re-set after replacing an oven element or tripping the electrical supply. Consult your Smeg manual.
  2. If your Oven is not getting hot or heating up it could be a faulty element, if the fan in the oven is running and the thermostat light is on, this will lead us to believe that the element has gone faulty. With grills the thermostat light should come on there should be heat, if not then this could be the grill element or the thermostat.
  3. When you turn the oven on, the household electrical supply trips on the Rcd (this is the earth trip in the fuse board sometimes called the breaker tripping) your fan oven element has gone to earth and needs replacing.

Smeg SUK91MFX5 oven wont heat

Reset the clock that will make the heating element work, if your clock has stopped displaying (common fault) set as per instructions but you wont be able to set at any acurate time.

Smeg Oven electric burning smell

My Smeg cooker worked fine for 5 years. Then I noticed that the fan which stays on after you turn off the oven did not ever turn off, unless you switched the oven off at the fuse box. I think this is a fan that cools the oven down, but some bit of it is now broken because it doesn't realise that the oven has cooled down. It smells funny when you first turn it on, so I don't know if that is an electrical fault smell. Model possibly 70cm A420-5, but could be an earlier model (bought in April 2000). Is double oven with 4 rings on top, 70cm wide.

Oven doesn't heat up

two possible causes first, element is breaking down when hot. one way to check is to put a multi-meter across element and see if it stays powered up. second, stat is faulty. check if element power cycles with stat
