Question about HP Pavillion DV1133WM Notebook

1 Answer

We understand that your problem is: A few weeks ago I posted a? with regard to my HP a8110n and the corrupt boot file. Well it dodn't solve the issue so I opened it up and found there was a clicking noise. the clicking noise wasn't from the either one of the disk drives so i am assuming it is the harddrive. Well my question is if I purchase a new harddrive, format it with the HP recovery disk, could I make the bad harddrive a slave and then copy file to the new hard drive. that is what I did with the bad hard drive afew years back (ofcourse it was brand new then). But I want to retrieve music and picture files before anything else goes wrong with it..

NO OS stated. XP?
That is correct. bad hard drives can click, that is the head servo
resetting, due to the brain inside finding gross errors.!
CLICKS:
Seen 100s do that. (the hdd with proper power (voltages 5v and 12vdc at spec) only clicks 2 times, on power-up and power down
called head retraction and parking.
so clicking can be 2 things, bad hdd, or lack of spec power to the HDD. Okay, it's is complex electronics here. we use a VOLTMETER to check power. 5v/12vdc
If you ran the software for S.M.A.R.T, it bleeds red errors like mad.
I bet.

Ok question 2: DATA.
how to get my data from a near or dead HDD.?
true dead, there will be no data.
OR (hope not)
it's too late now, backing up before HDD failures is best.
But you can do that, if lucky can get all or 1/2 the data, only FATE decides how bad it is, the drive or bad data.
If running w10 , the data you find will be needed to be to the new ownership. (use use added app, called takeownership to cure that)

there are also, great software you can buy to get all data. (may)
hDD moved to other PC as external HDD is best (esata enclosures top that list)
google hdd recovery software.

you will have to do a fresh install on to a new SSD (best choice)
there well be no chance of cloning any corrupted data, ever.
hopeless that.

seems this pc is very very old
PATA drives, is my guess. (not SATA)
HP has no data on it. its falling of the cliff of life.
I still have all the adaptors to work old gear like this , in my attic.
    dust 1 inch thick.
why not buy a $20 vastly newer PC at Goodwill stores, they dont keep them this old.
upgrade is always best. (makes parts easy to find and less cost)
not to mention keeping viruses out of the XP virus magnet.

HP a8110n , HDD is SATA. good. 320gb new.
    its a desktop.
    circa 2007,
that means its 10 years old
and better get all software and manuals off hp.com before they are deleted, as most are over that age.
and recovery media , is a good idea.

Hope this will help you.

Cannot boot up windows xp or do system recovery

It's easy Megan, just chill, lol!

Look at the back of the computer next to the Windows product key, or up on the side of the computer tower, for the white Service Tag.
In the tag write down what it states next to S/N.

This is the Serial Number.

(DO NOT post on here. Only give to an authorized HP representative)

Now contact HP Support, and ask for the Restoration Disk.
(HP bought out Compaq a long time ago)

In the USA the disk is free. The shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

In the US call 1-800-474-6836
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

Outside the US use HP Support Worldwide,

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

When you get the disk, turn your computer on, and put the disk in the optical drive's tray. (CD/DVD drive)
When asked choose Repair. (Non-Destructive Installation)

Diskboot failure insert system disk

What was the problem in the first place? Why are you trying to restore the computer?

Or reading wrong; do you mean the computer will not start? Boot?

Primer:
Disk Boot. -> The bootstrap files on the harddrive.
Bootstrap <- Make it easier to understand?

The basic Windows files.

Can't access restoration on the harddrive with F11? Quite common.
I mean, how crazy is that? Let's put the restoration files, (Basic Windows files), on the harddrive? So if the harddrive goes bad?????

Suggest you use the Restoration Disk.

{Pre-built computer manufacturers were packing the Restoration Disk/s with the computer. As time went by the manufacturers saw the users were not using the disk/s, or loosing them.

Didn't want to use, because of fearing computer damage if they error, or didn't even want to try.

Okay. Put the restoration files on the harddrive, then.
Have the new owner make a BACKUP, when the owner turns the computer on for the first time.
Save a few cents without providing the disk for each computer.
(Take a few cents times 50,000 computers, or more)

Hardly anyone makes a backup disk, when the computer is turned on for the first time. If the harddrive goes bad you cannot access the restoration files.

Computer manufacturers have gone back to packing the restoration disk, with the computer }

What?
Don't have the Restoration Disk? (I won't say anything about not making a backup disk. Could be failure time with it, also)

Go to the back of the computer tower, or up on the side. Write down the Serial Number. It's in the white Service Tag. S/N = Serial Number
(NO, do not post it on the internet. Only to an authorized HP representative)

Call HP Support.
In the USA call 1-800-474-6836
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Restoration Disk is free. The shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship. $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

For other countries use HP Worldwide Support,

http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/support.html

Do I think the Restoration Disk will repair the problem?
Dunno. Don't know what the original problem was. You haven't stated it yet.

My hp pavillion entertainment pc get a blan screen when i go to desktop

Keith, do you have the Restoration Disk? (CD)

Your boot files are corrupted. Use the Restoration Disk, and perform a Repair.
(Non-Destructive Installation)

Boot files = The essential basic Windows files needed to start Windows

'Corrupted' = An easy blanket type of term.

Crude comparison;
Think of your harddrive as a Library, and the files on it as Books.

Each file is categorized, and has an Address.
In a Library that would be akin to filing the books by name, and sorting by shelves.

The addresses are lost. (The files are still there, however)

Performing a Repair will restore the addresses to the files.

Do not have the Restoration Disk?

In the USA the disk is free. The shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

Call 1-800-474-6836, 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week.
Have your Serial Number written down, and handy to give to the nice representative on the phone.

In the white Service Tag on the bottom of the laptop, this is S/N

For countries other than the US, here is HP Worldwide Support,

http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/support.html

Appreciate it if you would post back with your results.

Why does my hp a6400f desktop start up and then suddenly shuts off and then turns on and off continuously?

Some malware present in your system might have caused this problem. Another thing is a corrupted file system. The best way to solve this is:
Make sure you have your OS bootable CD. You boot from your OS CD then choose "Repair" when prompted. It will replace all corrupt system files and restore your PC back.

Windows>\system32\hal.dll. corrupt

HAL.DLL Missing or Corrupt

If you get an error regarding a missing or corrupt hal.dll file, it might simply be the BOOT.INI file on the root of the C: drive that is misconfigured

Insert and boot from your WindowsXP CD.
At the first R=Repair option, press the R key
Press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the installation of Windows you want to repair.
Typically this will be #1
Type bootcfg /list to show the current entries in the BOOT.INI file
Type bootcfg /rebuild to repair it
Take out the CD ROM and type exit
