Lets start at the beginning, you should have a DSL/CABLE modem that connects you to the internet to begin with now. It would be helpful to know the Manufacturer and model of that device. There were probably two possibilities on how you had your internet set up before. The modem could be a modem/router with only one port in which the router supplied the username and password to access the internet. If this is the case you will need to hook a computer up to the modem directly access its default IP address usually 192.168.1.1 or .254. To access this device you will have to manually set your IP address to a address that is on the same subnet. You do this by going to network connections in control panel right clicking the Local Area Connection and clicking properties. Then scroll down in the box until you see TCP/IP click on it and hit the properties button. Set your ip address to something like 192.168.1.50 and a subnet of 255.255.255.0. You will need to change the routing pattern to Bridged Ethernet. This will allow your new router to do all the work. You will then need to hook your modem directly to the WAN port on your router and connect your computer to one of the switch ports on the router. You will then need access your router by using 192.168.1.1 or .254. You will need to set the PPoE Information i.e. username and password. Now you will need to go back to your network connections and change your ip address back to the obtain automatically. Your internet should kick on and start working. If i have made any wrong assumptions please let me know and I will follow up with a more detailed response.

Thanks

4.If using XP: Double click on wireless connection and hit the support tab. Ensure it is assigned by DHCP and the ip address should start with 192.
5. If Vista Or Windows 7 Right click on wireless conenction and hit properties. Uncheck version Internet Protocol Version 6

Belkin router can't connect to internet

This is part solution, part clarification request: When you say that you installed the setup software on your laptop, setup software for which: the modem, or the belkin router? Also what type of internet service do you have - Cable? DSL? If you are not sure, list your ISP. What operating systems do you have on your laptop and your main computer?

You say that you connected the modem to your main computer - I am assuming that you mean that you connected your modem with a network or ethernet cable (the one with a connector that looks similar to but larger than a telephone's connector) to your computer's ethernet card, or NIC, port. Is anything connected by ethernet cable to the Belkin router? If you have not connected the modem directly to the router, it will not connect to the internet, and anything connecting to the Belkin router will not be able to access the internet as well.

Try this: disconnected the power from your modem, then disconnect power from your router, and disconnect any ethernet cables from computer & modem, or computer and router. Connect an ethernet cable from the modem to the Belkin Router. (Ensure that you have plugged in the ethernet cable on the router into a port that is either set aside from others, or indicates "Internet", WAN, or something similar - it should be marked either with a different color, labled, or both). Now power on your modem. Wait until you see a steady "ready" light, green ethernet light, or the light usually lit for that model indicating it has completed its bootup tests and the internet connection is ready.
Next, ensure the ethernet cable is connected from the modem to correct WAN or "internet" port on the Belkin Router, then power up the router. Once the router boots up completely, plug in a cable from your computer's (main computer) NIC or ethernet card or port, to a port on the Belkin Router (there should be more than one port available, generally numbered "1, 2, 3" and so on - in a group, seperate from the WAN or internet port). Once you are sure you have the cable plugged into one of the correct ports, and if you have windows, restart your main computer.

Now on your main computer, check to see if you have an internet connection. If you do, you can now resume running the router's software setup on your laptop, which sounds as though it was walking you thru the setup process to connect you via wireless connection to the internet. Report back if you have any success, or if you have any further problems, and best of luck! Hope that info helps

Belkin router F5D9230-4 connection issues

First thing to do here is to reset the router, Press and hold the reset button for 15 seconds while the power is ON then after that unplug/replug the power for 5 seconds then run again the setup CD and if the router is still working after the reset it should be configure by the setup CD, if not I will advice you to contact Belkin tech support so they can further check if the router is bad already and if its still under warranty they can replace it....

Hope that helps..........

Belkin wireless router installation with a laptop that has an internal modem

Depending on the operating system that you are running, and if you have the appropriate wireless cards, you should be able to do this either with or without the modem. If you have the modem connected to one computer, and wireless cards on both computers, then your best option would be to just connect directly from one computer to the next. If you can tell me the answers to these few questions, I can help you get on the right path.

What operating system are you running? Windows XP? Vista? Macintosh?

Do both of your computers have wireless network cards? If not, then which computers have the wireless network, and which computer has the modem?
