Question about Canon PowerShot SD400 / IXUS 50 Digital Camera

Canon SD400: horizontal lines and daylight images are overexposed (see photo)

I have a Canon SD400 that is having problems with the images. The photos have horizontal lines running through them.

Also, the outdoor photos, anything with sunlight, comes out overexposed. However, movies come out normal. This is all in automatic mode.

Any solutions? I could not find any recall info for the SD400 if this is a CCD image issue.

Here's a sample photo:

having the same overexposure problem. no issue with horizontal lines. seemed to occur after the camera was tipped over, perhaps shock damaged something. Indoor pics are fine, only seems to be a problem in bright sunlight.

In both the situations the problem is with the apperture control mechanism of the camera. 1). sometimes the flexible ribbion cable carrying signal to the lense assembly get worn out, replacing the same will resolve the problem. 2) in some cases the leaf blades of the apperture gets sticky, cleaning of the same solves the problem. 3). If you happen to drop the camera then the alignment of the motor moving the blades get disturbed.

In all the cases only a good repair man can fix the problem .

The shutter flex cable inside the lens is broken. Happens to all cameras from Canon A4xx series. At day the images will be overexposed with horizontal lines on it, but it could look better at dark / night. The FLEX has to be replaced. Canon doesn't supply new flex cables for these, but there are some cheap copies on ebay. But as these brake very often, I wouldn't suggest you investing money in this camera, because it will brake again sooner or later.

Hello. go into your menu and find the reset function. Reset the camera and try it. If the reset to factory settings doesn't solve your problem it needs to go to the repair shop. Joe

No photo in daylight in outdoor

You'll need to first check what setting you have the camera on. Sometimes, this can make all the difference. Change the setting to auto. Or, if you are familiar with manual settings, change the camera mode to manual...then change the ISO

Overexposed photos in otherwise normal settings in casio ex-s500

It is the shutter (or at least it was for me) I found a simple test here: http://www.mydc.com.tw/repair/knowledge_en/casio-exilim-ex-s600-overexposure-t17.html
I repaired it myself, but it took me a whole afternoon and lots of patience.
The hard part is taking the camera apart, once I got to the shutter I just activated it manually so to dislodge any pieces that might have gotten jammed, then placed it back together again and it worked! :).
It's really hard to take apart, it's like a puzzle sometimes, to find which screws are keeping it together. I also had a bit of hard time when it came to put the zoom back together again.
But I guess it beats throwing the camera away.
I'm still puzzled on how the CCD works so that an overexposure would make horizontal overexposed lines, but everything points to that. Fixed shutter, lines be gone.

Poor image displayed on cscreen after shot taken

I have an s60 and it sounds like I had this exact problem. Whenever I took a photo, the entire picture was covered with white horizontal lines. The actual image files were striped the same way.

I found this on the Canon USA site:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&keycode=2112&fcategoryid=223&modelid=10149

Because it was a hardware issue, they sent me a shipping label, I sent in the camera, they fixed it, and sent it back. All free of charge.

Good luck; I hope your camera is repairable.
