Question about HP Photosmart C5180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

I have a photosmart printer, bought in England, which requires HP 363 cartridges. Whilst in USA in June I enquired at a computer supplies store if they sold these. The assistant looked it up on the HP website and discovered they were sold under the code 02. He showed me this on the web page so I can actually confirm that this is correct. I purchased 2 packs of the 5 colour cartridges, black cartridge and photocards. When unpacked the cartridges are identical to the 363 - same size, shape and markings. They slot easily into my HP C5180 printer but the printer will not accept them and will not let me print. I have made enquires at PC World and shown them the cartridges. They are at a loss to explain this and suggested I contacted you for a solution. It is very annoying to find that I am left with two useless packs of cartridges which I bought in good faith. Have you any ideas?

Brenda912, I have the opposite problem - I bought my printer when living in North America, but have now moved back to the UK and the 363 won't work. - would you like to sell your cartridges to me? I run a home business and have just discovered I have run out and need to print urgently.

You can change the ink/printer regional code by accessing the service menu on the printer:

1. Press * and # keys simultaneously.
2. "Enter Special Key Combo" will be displayed.
3. Press 123 to display the 'Support/Service' menu.
4. Locate REGION menu and make appropriate selection.
B. HP02 ink-series printer models that DO NOT HAVE a KEYPAD:

it is likely that you havr a mix of trade and host supply of ink cartridges. Even though HP363 and HP177 are compatible cartridges it is not the issue. Refer this article.

Hope this helps.

Oh yes HP can regionalize the printer for you. You need to call the UK HP and speak to their tech people. There is a specific reset that can be done and once it's complete you are able to use the 363 cartridges.

0844 369 0369 is there number and they do not charge for support for regionalization calls even if printer is out of warranty.

Using 02 series cartridges in 363 configured printer

Hi,
You are correct those printers & cartridges are designed to work only in their original countries of origin…
For example if you bought the printer in Europe, it uses the #363 cartridges.. If you were to have bought the printer in the US it would use the #02.

You can contact HP and over the phone they can help you turn your printer from a #363 into a #02…ou might need to have a “story” ready ;)

Once the conversion is done, from that moment onwards, your printer will only take #02 carts...

Only HP can make that change...

Cheers,
Ed
