Question about Compaq NC8000 Notebook

1 Answer

Battery Power My nc8000 battery does not charge. I got this computer of a friend and they said they thought it did not have a battery as it always turned off when unplugged from main power supply. They thought a battery was an extra they had to buy. I have checked and it has a battery. The battery light will flicker a couple of times then nothing. In control panel it shows as no battery present

I would say it's done. With the battery in and the water, most likely it's shorted the device out. Applying AC now could be a fire hazard, you could have a complete melt down.

Compaq nc8000 won't start please i wont to know the problem on the mother board after swicth on it will go off after 4 second and it wil not even show anything on the screen and the fan too will go off.

It could very likely be the motherboard causing the problem, in which case you're best off just getting a new computer rather than replacing or repairing the board, but it could also be a power issue.

Try turning the computer on with the battery installed and the AC adapter disconnected, and then try it with the AC adapter connected and the battery removed -- does it show the same symptoms both times?

Maybe it's your power supply, I suggest you get a voltmeter and check the voltage on the power supply.

Good luck

BATTERY NOT PRESENT

If that is an old battery , it only means that the battery is already dead and needs a replacemenet, but if that battery is new make sure that the battery is charging if its not changing the prokblem can be the battery still....

My nc8000 shuts down after few seconds and starts after power plugged in or battery inserted

Hi Turecki, It's a moderately easy fix for this common issue with HP/Compaq Laptops. Simply go to ebay, purchase an "inverter" board built for a NC8000 laptop can range from $10-$50 just purchase one with a minimum 6 month warranty. Its about a 0.5 inch by 15 inches. Unscrew all of the tiny phillips screws located and hidden behind black rubber covers on the LCD screen. Pop off the plastic LCD cover and replace the inverter board located at the bottom of the LCD (plug & play). Put it all back together and voila...problem fixed.

Have fun and practice some repair skills.

AC Power and Battery Problem.....

Sounds like the battery or possibly the charging circits themselves are the problem. Can you try turning on the laptop with just the power cord in and no battery?

Power on password on Compaq NC8000

close to the CMOS battery there will be a BIOS jumper. This jumper usually is colored dif. from all the rest and is labeled commonly (but not always) "J4". The CMOS jumper usually is a 3 pin lead setup and normal operating mode most of the time is with the jumper on pin 1 & 2. If this jumper is on the first and second pin you are going to then move it to the second and third pins and let it sit for about 30 seconds (or place it on pins 1 & 2 if it originally resides on 2 & 3). Once you have done that you will then replace the jumper back as you found it and reconnect all your input/output devices. Power on your computer, boot into BIOS, and use auto detect for your hardware specs. Most of the time you wont have to touch anything setting wise in the BIOS (if its good firmware it detects everything by itself).
