Question about Acer Aspire One PC Notebook

1 Answer

I have a Acer One Netbook D260(bought over a month ago) , was doing OK, when all of a sudden, the icons on my desk top and all changed to Windowa Photo Viewer and informs me that "it cannot open the picture (eg. internet explorer media player welcome centre windows explorer, McAfee Acer accessories, works etc), because photo viewer doesn't support this file format, or I don't have the latest updates to photo viewer" Can you please tell me what is wrong? And how to go about correcting it? Thank you. Kind regards Dawn

    folder option >view
Uncheck the Hide file extension for known format and Hide protected operating system files.

Now go to desktop you can see the file with the extension, change your file extension with your known format.

    Ex: ss.jpg

if this a document file than change it to ss.doc
    like that

I could not get my sylvania netbook to connect to my wifi so i download the update from their website to a SD card then opened on the netbook and it deleted everything on the netbook. how can i restore it...

I do not know why your icons disappeared by running the Download, but your programs are still in the on board ROM memory and what you are missing are your desk top icons. I have tried to duplicate your download problem but so far have not been able. I know that using a SD card will not download a usuable file so I used a thumb drive.

Any way please read the following solution that I wrote to another poster.

If you have deleted the icons for those programs on your desk top, then they may be in your Recycle trash bin. double click on Recycle Bin look for the icon for recorder, right click on recorder and select restore. You really cannot delete the programs from your machine as they are retained in a ROM chip , hard coded into the chip and are loaded each time you cut your machine on. The only thing you can do is delete the icons on the desktop, which are sent to the recycle bin.
To retore the machine to factory settings, there is a small hole just about an inch down from the data plate on the back. Using a pencil point or a straightened paper clip, insert the bject into the hole and hold for about 5 seconds. Your deleted icons are not replaced.
A second method to restore your icon is to click on my computer right click on the recorder, select copy, dismiss my computer, find a blank spot on your desktop and right click on that spot, select paste, and a dos type icon appears as your recorder button. When you cut the machine of and back on the Dos type icon is replaced with a CE type icon
To restore all icons:
You can: If you can click on start, click on run, type desk top into the open space and ok it. your icons should be shown. you will have to copy and paste each one back to your desk top, or select edit and then select select all, then click on file, select send to, and select desk top as short cut. Boots up has desk top with out any icons not start not startup bar nothing just a blank desktop - nothing at all shows up on the desk top however the "cursor" is there but will not right click

just a quick thing to try is to press ctrl, alt, del and then select file -> new task. Type in explorer and click OK and see if this makes a difference.

Let me know if this starts it up, if it does there is probably something stopping the computer get back this stage and we can look t turning this off from startup if needed

I tried to connect my acer one to a TV conversion device. all I get is my desk top picture, no icons or anything else. how do I get it to work?

Sounds like the acer is in dual view which means it has extended the desktop across both screens...if you move the cursor to the right, it would probably appear on the external monitor. Try holding down the "Fn" key and tap the F5 key. This should toggle the Acer One through it's video settings. Tap slowly, giving the netbook time to switch video outputs, you should see eventually the desktop with icons appear on the external monitor. You may have to change the resolution, but it should work regardless.

Acer aspire 1 netbook won,t boot up.

Hi
When you first turn the machine on hit F2, that will take you into the bios menu, i don't know what version your machine is using, but the information is usually on the first page, you should find it easy enough because it will be next to the CD/DVD drive.
