Question about HP Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a HP dv5000 notebook and the screen started showing weird colord lines and eventually turned black. I replaced the inverter and it worked for a couple of days then it did the same thing. I replaced the inverter again and the same thing happened again. Sometimes if I twist the screen or hold it just right the screen works. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Hello,

The problem is not from the inverter of the laptop. It is the module that is faulty, the module is like a flex in the laptop that assists in getting information from the motherboard to the screen, if it is faulty, it will start showing weird colors or start having some screen malfunctions.

Have the module replaced and the laptop will be in good condition once again. I had such experience with my HP530 and i replaced the module, trust me it worked perfectly fine.

Take care and good luck

HP Pavilion dv5000. Black screen. I can hear it load up & momentarily I can see even put in my password but the screen is faint then the black screen appears. Help me please

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

My HP Pavillion DV5000 has a black screen (no backlight) when I shine a flashlight on the screen I can see my icons and desktop. When I turn on the laptop, the start up screen have weird reddish color and...

Most likely the screen , but it could be the invertor or even the motherboard.
Voltages must be measured on the invertor to isolate the problem.
these are not easy to trouble shoot.
If the 5 volts to the invertor is missing suspect the motherboard, also some of these have motherboard graphics card issues that can cause this issue, but since the external monitor works I'd say its not the graphics card.
I hope this helps
Thanks

Hp g5000 sreen does not light up as usal, i can see a the start up when i shine a torch at the sreen, what do i need to do to get working.

An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. It needs an additional source of light.
A Backlight is used as the additional light source.

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to the Fluorescent lighting used in homes and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

The LCD screen is a composite of layers, surrounded by a thin metal frame that resembles a picture frame.
To one side of the LCD screen layers, and under the frame is usually where the Backlight is mounted.
[Note* Two Backlights are used in some models]

Replacing a Backlight is more labor intensive than replacing an Inverter.
Due to this, and the cost, the LCD screen itself is replaced as a unit most of the time, when it comes to Backlight replacement.

Example of a replacement LCD screen for the HP G5000 series of Notebook PC's,

https://www.screentekinc.com/HP_G5000_Series--15.4-inch--1280x800-wxga-laptop-lcd-screen.shtml

[Note* Stating HP G5000 is just stating the model series. When buying replacement parts the EXACT Model Number should be used. This information is located on the bottom of the laptop, in a white Service Tag.

When replacing an LCD screen, the model number of the replacement LCD screen should be matched to the existing LCD screen's Model Number.
Inverters and LCD screens are matched together. Make sure you get the correct part]

An Inverter is used to provide power from the laptop to the LCD screen, and to the Backlight.

Note* 90 Percent of the time the problem is a bad Inverter.

Example of an Inverter for an HP G5000 series notebook PC,

http://www.zlectronic.com/product/INVERTER-FOR-HP-DAC-07B035-DAC-09B017-DV5000-G5000.html

The LCD screen, Top Cover, Display Bezel, Inverter, Backlight, and various screws, make up the Display Assembly.
The Display Bezel made of plastic surrounding the LCD screen, and in front of the LCD screen is removable.
Behind it is easy access to the Inverter.

The Inverter is approximately 4 inches long, and the width of a No.1 pencil.
Usually located at the bottom of the LCD screen, and right behind the Bezel.

This article shows replacing an Inverter and LCD screen on a Compaq Presario v2000 series Notebook PC,

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/replace-lcd-screen-inverter-compaq-presario-v2000-laptop/

This pictorial guide is not for the HP G5000 series Notebook PC, but the models are very similar when it comes to Inverter replacement.
The above link is to show you what is involved.

My question: My HP DV5000 is not displaying on the screen and it worked well on external monitor

You might have either a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. The screen inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. It converts low voltage DC power to high voltage AC power needed for the backlight lamp.

I am having problems with my screen on my hp dv5000 notebook. The bottom have of the screen will freeze and only the top part is scrolling down and moving. After a while my screen will start to get lines...

Hello,

the fault could be from your laptops graphic card.

Connect your laptop to an external monitor, and if the screen still freezes on the external monitor, then the fault is truly from your graphic card.

But if the external monitor displays well, then it means the problem is from your screen inverter.

From which ever angle the fault may be coming from, you need to take the laptop to a repairer to fix the problem for you. I don't think either of the fault is what you can handle.

Take care.

Screen is Black/Not on from start.

Try going into your BIOS by starting the notebook and tapping F10, when the screen comes up then tap once on F9, and choose to save default settings, and tap F10 again and exit. One other thing you can try is to connect your notebook to another screen or another PC so that you can see it is your video card or your screen. If you are having problems with your video card it will not show up on an external screen either, but if its your screen then you should be able to get video on another screen. If you do not get a screen in the BIOS screen then I would go to Radio Shack and have your video card tested.

You either have a screen that has gone and needs to be replaced or a cheaper fix and usually a more likely one is that the inverter in the screen has gone out. The inverter is quite cheap, around $34.00. Try it
