Question about Optoma HD70 DLP Projector

HD70 additional information on vertical problem

I ended up taking a closer look today and played a blue ray movie. The black line in about 2 inches wide and goes completely across the screen. It is like that portion of the movie is blacked out almost like dead pixels on a computer monitor. I am a software engineer and I could probably do some of these repairs myself. I just need a knowledgeable person walking me through the steps. I would be glad to pay for all advice given to walk me through the repair...

How do I change the lamp? Lamp came with no directions. This is a HD72.

Hello there,If your movie projector light bulb has stopped working, there are some simple steps to take to get your movies playing again. The hardest part may be finding the correct replacement bulb. There are so many different models with their own specific bulb. Here are some steps to follow to replace your burned out light bulb.
  • Locate the bulb in the movie projector. You may need to use a screwdriver to open the bulb compartment. Check your owner's manual for proper procedures.
  • Step 2.Remove the movie projector light bulb or lamp. The bulb must be cool before you take it out. Use a tissue or cloth to remove the bulb because the glass bulb is very fragile. Do not throw away your bulb yet, you may need it to help find a replacement.
  • Step 3.Find replacement bulb. The Better Lamps website offers a wide variety of light bulb models. From their homepage select the brand of movie projector you have and using the model number from your old bulb, buy a replacement.
  • Step 4Replace the movie projector lamp or light bulb. Do not touch the bulb with your skin. This can transfer oils from you onto the bulb resulting in a hot spot which can make the bulb burst. Use a tissue or cloth to handle the new bulb to screw it back into place and then replace the cover.

Two vertical blue bands on right side of screen, get worse as movie progresses, and black areas look really blue. Air cleaned entire projector per manual instructions. Also rotated both blue IN and blue...

with the projector off, remove the cover and unplug the blue lcd panel ribbon cable from the main board and reinsert it. you have to unlock the cable first (either the clip goes up or out, but do not force). if that does not solve the problem, you have a faulty lcd panel.

Replaced lamp now projecter will not turn on hd70

I had a similar situation, but we fixed it.  I can't exactly tell you why it worked nor whether or not it will for you.  Here's the deal.
First, take your lamp out and re-seat it.  This is one of the easiest ways to get a projector not to power up.
In our case, the thing would fire up, show us the Optoma logo, the blue screen, and then within about 15 seconds, it shut down, lamp fail light came on, and only a hard power reset would let us try again.  The bulb was good; after all, it came on, right?
So, we kept playing this game of power up, fail, unplug, replug.  I gave up and went to do something else.  I came back to the projector, needing it to let me see a screen to configure (weird I know, but that's how it was).  Anyhow, at this point, the projector stayed on, no problems.  So, I kept it running through the night with a kitchen timer on.  After 5 1/2 hours without failure, we knew we were set.
The point?  If it's powering up and showing picture for even a brief period, try cycling it several times.  However, if it's overheating or showing any other signs of distress, you may make it worse using my approach.  I think we may have just been lucky or the projector gnomes came in the night.

    Hair inside optoma hd70 lense

I had an issue with "dust blobs" on my HD70 and was unable to locate instructions or a tutorial on how to remove them. I figured maybe this could help you if the hair is located within the same location as the dust. Please check out my blog at http://tantht.blogspot.com/ for instructions on how to remove dust blobs from a HD70 as this process worked perfect for me and I no longer have these annoying spots when watching movies!!

White vertical lines in image w/ 2 inch black bar horizontal.

the black bar is from the light tunnel collapsing. the white lines are from the colorwheel or the main board has a cold solder joint. replace the tunnel and colorwheel and have the main board looked at.
