I ended up taking a closer look today and played a blue ray movie. The black line in about 2 inches wide and goes completely across the screen. It is like that portion of the movie is blacked out almost like dead pixels on a computer monitor.I am a software engineer and I could probably do some of these repairs myself.I just need a knowledgeable person walking me through the steps.I would be glad to pay for all advice given to walk me through the repair...

I like to watch Blu ray movies. In my daily life, I have collected lots of Blu-ray disc. I used to play them on TV with Blu ray drivers. Today, I plan to play these Blu ray movies on my computer, but the computer can't play the Blu ray movies. What are the reasons? How to play a movie on Windows 7?
If the Blue-ray movie disc does not play then the Region Code of the disc does not match the Blye-ray player's region code. This is the same type of Region code locking as they have on DVD discs. For Blue-ray region code information, check out this WEB site. http://regionfreemovies.com/
Make sure that the blu ray player is indicating that the latest firmware is installed on it. Press the setup button go to settings and down to version. Then record the version number. If it is the most current firmware version number after all call 800-237-4277 pressing 1 for all of the prompts. Inform the representative that with the firmware version number installed on your bluray player you are having this problem with Avatar. This helps because Sharp is
gathering information on any occurrences after an update and they are working on another update to resolve any occurrences
dudes really simple as i couldnt watch 2012 amazing movie ! get a usb stick go to the site that is your make or model say for example: ( philips blu-ray bdp3000 go to philips and software and downloads after selected model )
download the firmware open as winRAR or documents u should see the choice of two folders select them both and extract them to your usb stick and done ! stick in your blu-ray player settings advanced software usb and download and wait should not take more than 2 mins for everything to be working !!!!
I also have the same problem I phoned Samsung today to explain the tv was only 14 months old, they didn't wanna no because it was out of warrenty by 2 months. I am getting a black solid line down the left hand side of the screen. I ended up phoning Dixons were we bought it from, they have told me to get an independent engineers report done & send the report to them within 14 days. Dixon told me it was a known problem with Samsungs. They said they will fix it free of charge if they can if not they will send vouchers to the same value of the television. So beware stay clear of Samsungs.
