When brand new in package, yes it does. But you pull it off to install into the printer.

Not reconizing printer head

Have you cleaned the print head contacts? If not, try this- open the the front cover with the machine on, the printer cartridges will move to the left and stop-
Don't shut off machine- on the right side of the cartridges you will see a gray handel- holding the bottom of the handel pull it towards you {clock wise} till the lever is in the up position; this will release the print head, next lift the print head (hold the cartridges) up and pull out the assembly.
On the back of the print head you will see copper contacts- clean them with alcohol or other such chemical. Look in machine where the print head was and you will see more copper contacts- carefully wipe them with a contact cleaner.
Reinstall print head, lift gray lever to lock it in.
Close front cover.

How to clean ink cartridges HP deskjet printers

You need the following items to clean the print cartridges:

• Distilled water (tap water can contain contaminants that
can damage the print cartridge)
• Cotton swabs or other soft, lint-free material that will not stick
to the print cartridge

Be careful not to get ink on your hands or clothing as you clean.

To prepare to clean

1. Open the HP Deskjet cover.
2. Wait until the print cartridge cradle moves to the
center of the HP Deskjet and is idle and quiet.
3. Remove the print cartridges and place them on a piece
of paper, with the copper strips facing up.

CAUTION: Do not leave the print cartridges outside the HP Deskjet for more than 30 minutes.
To manually clean print cartridge contacts

1. Lightly moisten a cotton swab with distilled water and
squeeze any excess water from the swab.
2. Gently wipe the print cartridge copper contacts with the cotton swab.

CAUTION: Do not touch the print cartridge ink nozzles. Touching the ink nozzles will result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

3. Repeat this process until no ink residue or dust appears on the swab.

All my colour cartridges are ok.I've just replaced the black cartridge but its not printing anything black. Checked the openings there all clear...Checked the ports in the printer itself../.they're clear....

Run the clean print cartridges utility

    • If the HP Solution Center method does not work, open Printers and Faxes in the Windows Control Panel , then right-click your printer icon and chooseProperties . Click Printing Preferences . Click the Features tab, then thePrinter Services button, then click the Estimated Ink Levels tab.
  2. The Printer Toolbox opens. On the Device Services tab, click Clean the Print Cartridges , then follow the on-screen instructions. Up to three levels of cleaning are available. Discard or recycle the page that prints.
Clean the contacts NOTE: The printer will only function if all six ink cartridges are installed. Also, HP cannot guarantee the quality of refilled or remanufactured ink cartridges. Figure 3: Lifting the top coverc00706023.gif

My HP Photosmart 2600 displays "remove and check cartridge on right". I know it still has ink. I removed it and replaced it and it is still displayed and won't print.

Step 1: Remove, inspect, and reseat the problem cartridge
The cartridge might not have full electrical contact with the product. Removing and reinstalling the cartridge might help.

NOTE: HP cannot guarantee the quality of remanufactured or refilled cartridges. Use genuine HP cartridges to ensure good quality.

1.
Make sure that the product is turned on.

NOTE: Press the power button ( ) to turn on the product.
2.
Open the product cover and wait until the carriage is idle and silent.
3.
Open the cartridge latch.
1.
Press down lightly on top of the latch.
2.
Pull out the bottom of the latch to unhook it.
4.
Slide the cartridge out and inspect it.

Open the cartridge latch

Slide out the cartridge
CAUTION: Do not touch the copper electrical contacts or the ink nozzles.

Electrical contacts and ink nozzles
1 - Copper electrical contacts
2 - Ink nozzles
1.
Check the copper electrical contacts for debris. If any debris is evident, proceed to "Step two: Clean the cartridge and carriage contacts."
2.
Make sure that the clear nozzle protective tape has been removed.
Figure 4: Remove the clear nozzle protective tape
Remove the clear protective tape

CAUTION: Do not try to remove the copper electrical strip.
3.
Look at the number on the cartridge label and make sure it is compatible with the product. Compatible cartridges are listed in the product user guide.
5.
If the cartridge is not compatible, obtain the correct cartridge, and then go to "Step five: Replace the cartridge." If the cartridge is compatible, reinstall it in the product:
1.
Hold the cartridge with the nozzles down and the copper electrical contacts facing the product, and then slide the cartridge into the carriage.
*
Cartridges marked with a triangle go into the left carriage slot.
*
Cartridges marked with a square or pentagon go into the right carriage slot.

Insert the cartridge into the correct slot
2.
Push down on the cartridge latch until it snaps closed.

Slide the cartridge into the slot

Close the cartridge latch
6.
Close the product cover.

Step 2: Clean the problem cartridge contacts

1.
Gather the following items to clean the cartridge and carriage:
2.
*
Clean distilled water. Use bottled or filtered water if distilled water is not available. Tap water can contain contaminants that damage the cartridge.
*
Clean cotton swabs or any soft, lint-free material that will not stick to the cartridges (coffee filters work well).
*
Sheets of paper or a paper towel to rest the cartridge on during cleaning.
3.
Open the product cover and wait until the carriage is idle and silent.
4.
Remove the cartridge and place it on a piece of paper with the nozzle plate facing up.

NOTE: Clean the contacts quickly so that the cartridge is not outside of the product for more than 30 minutes. If the cartridge is outside of the product for too long, the ink can dry and clog the nozzles.
5.
Unplug the product from the electrical outlet.
6.
Dip a swab in the clean water and squeeze it to remove most of the moisture. The swab should be only slightly damp.
7.
Clean the cartridge contacts.
CAUTION: Do not touch the ink nozzles.

Cartridge contacts
8.
Clean the contacts in the carriage, inside the product.

Carriage contacts
9.
Either let the cartridge sit for 10 minutes to allow the cleaned area to dry, or use a new swab to dry it.
10.
Reinstall the cartridge.
11.
Reconnect the product to the electrical outlet.
12.
Close the product cover.

Step 3: Repeat reseating and cleaning steps
If the problem is not solved, repeat the reseating and cleaning procedures above.
Step 4: Contact HP
If a cartridge replacement was not tried previously to solve this problem, replace the problem cartridge now. Click here (c00206040) (in English) to see if the cartridge is covered under warranty.
Step 5: Print in backup mode
If you do not have a replacement cartridge, you can still print in ink backup mode. Simply remove the problem cartridge, and print with the remaining cartridge.

*
If you remove the tri-color cartridge, printouts will be in grayscale.
*
If you remove the black or photo cartridge, the product prints slowly and the colors in the printouts might differ.
