Question about Whirlpool 17.6 Cu. Ft. Top-Mount Refrigerator - White

1 Answer

Whirlpool 445L white Fridge Model: WRID41TW It started with dripping water into the fridge from top (freezer?). I was unable to locate the water source. Three days later, the freezer started frosting but the fridge stopped working. A week later, a whirlpool technician came to investigate the problem and he deemed it beyond repairing. Has anyone out there had the same experience? Is there a solution to it. I like my fridge and wish to make it work again.

Have you tried it after letting it defrost for a couple of days . It sounds like it was just frozen up. If the freezer is still working then it is the defrost drain is frozen up.

After defrosting, the freezer will not start. - Whirlpool fridge.

I presume that you still have got electricity power and the fuse has not 'blown' - if not you could try putting in a new fuse in the plug, sometimes two problems can occur simultaneously.

Otherwise I would leave the door shut to keep the stuff as cold as possible, some may refreeze, or ask a neighbour, friend, or relative to let me have some space in their freezer.

Water buildup in the fridge, dripping in from the freezer

This could be a bad thermostat. If your thermostat never closes it's swith then the defrost element never comes on and you get the problem you are having. Easy fix. Do you know where your timer is and can you retate it?

Water dripping from freezer onto top shelf of fridge with ice buildup back of freezer

the defroster isn't close enough to the drain to be effective. remove the back wall of the inside of the freezer, remove the excess ice. clear out the ice from the drain using hot water and a turkey baster. there is a kit from whirlpool that uses a piece of metal and a screw around the defrost rod, but I found out that a piece of 14 gauge solid core wire with the insulation stripped off works great too. stick the stripped wire into the drain, 2 to 3 inches, and wrap the rest around the defrost rod.

Water is dripping into refrigerator from opening on top (between the freezer & fridge located toward the back of the inside of the fridge). About the same amount of water daily. The problem continues...

If it's the same as our GE fridge, there's a tube in the back of the fridge on the outside with an S shaped curve in it that may be plugged up with dust and/or dirt. Clean it out to let the water get through.
Hope this helps.

Whirlpool ET1FTKXK Fridge not working

The reason you had water dripping from the top is the frig goes into a defrost cycle every 12 hours or so and melts the ice build up. Now your drain line for the water to go down to bottom of frig is plugged more then likely with ice. Take the cover off back of freezer and get some salt table salt be good. And put it in the drain hole located roughly in the center of freezer cabinet. That will take care of the drain quick. Now notice to see if the fan on the inside of freezer is on. My hunch is that it is not turning. You can replace the little fan motor make sure you don't damage the fan blades you will re-use them. Be sure compressor is on cause the fan only works when compressor is on. Let me know what you find out.
