I have a Frigidaire chest freezer glfn1326gw2 My problem is that the freezer is not getting cold enough. It's able to produce ice on the front wall but the back wall and bottom are not cold and I had to rescue all of my food. I've unplugged and thawed the entire unit for 36 hours. After I turned it off, I did hear what sounded like water running so I am assuming this is the coolant. I did a thorough clean and dry then restarted it up again, I placed a small plastic cup of water in the bottom and it was still water after another 36 hours with the temperature cranked to the coldest level. The compressor is running/vibrating, it's warm to touch but not hot and the copper pipe leading from it does get rather cold (not icey, but cold). This unit is very well sealed but also very clean @ the access panel. Only 17 months old....please help! Any suggestions as to what the issue might be and how to solve it is appreciated.

It sounds like you are either low on refrigerant or the system is oil logged. if the sound is steady and not spurting I would be pretty sure you have a leak and are low on gas.

Why are only drawers in fridge cold & not making ice?

Contact a professional. Sounds like either your damper door is not operating correctly and not letting enough cool air from the freezer enter, or there is an air leak that is making ice form .
tip

Simple thing you can do if the ref is not getting cold enough.

1. Defrost the freezer if you see ice on the inside wall.
This is a very common problem. Before you call a technician do this.
Defrost the freezer completely, and when you put the items back, make sure that the vent are not being blocked. The fan needs to circulate the air inside the freezer to keep it from having frost. Ice build up causes circulation problem which causes the ref and even the freezer to not get cold enough. Since the thermostat senses that it is not getting cold enough the refrigerator runs constantly and producing even more frost. Then the owner turns the refrigerator to coldest setting which actually do not help, or maybe make the problem even worse, all the while running up the electric bill as well. So there you go.

FREEZER SIDE TOO MUCH ICE FRIDGE SIDE NOT TOO COLD

If it has ice buildup on the back wall inside the freezer, it appears to have a defrost problem. Unplug it, put your food in another unit (or ice chests), open the freezer door and let it thaw out overnight for at least 12 hours or more, or until all the ice has melted from *behind* the back wall. Then close the doors and run it for 4 hours and check to see if the fresh food side is cold. If it is, call a repairman to fix the defrost problem. That could be a burned out heater, terminator, or defrost timer depending on your exact model.

Ice is forming on bottom and back wall of freezer can any one help with this

there are two types of freezer, one is upright freezer (same as refrigerator on outside look but inside all the layers are same as the freezer of an ordinaryrefrigerator) the other one is the chest type freezer(basically it looks like a chest cabinet),now about the forming of ice at the bottom and back wall, well should be all side of the freezer should have ice on it,

Just one question to ask? Did you used any sharp object in removing ice(ex. knife, ice pick , etc,)

If you do then there are a possibility that you do some hole on the tubes where the Freon Gas (chemical refrigerant) are passing thru, then in that case you might have leakage. Well that means you really need to call a technician to do the job, because you'll gonna need to fix the hole and re-charge a freon gas.(having not enough refrigerant on the system, your refrigerator might not able to produce ice completly.

The other possible reason is that your motor compressor might be damaged(possible reason: Lost compression) it has something to do with pump compression inside the motor (only technician can solve this problem)

Freezer gets ice on back wall but wont freeze , fridge either

Hi Brian,

I recommend that you set the freezer to a WARMER setting to avoid getting ice on the back of the freezer. The ice is preventing good air flow over the cooling plate and therefore is not keeping the items in your freezer cold enough. You will need to remove the ice - which can be a daunting task. If you are able to store all your frozen items somewhere else for a while, it would be best to let the whole thing thaw out. I can't find any specs on that fridge, but i would guess that it does not have an automatic defrost, which is, in part, what is causing your problem.

If you are in a humid climate this will happen more frequently - especially if you have the unit outdoors or in an unairconditioned area.

Freezer not cold enough/ice maker not working

Check the coils in the freezer to see if they are blocked with ice.

Freezer not getting cold enough

I think your system has a leak and has lost the refrigerant charge.
The only way to check is by accessing the sealed system. Most systems are covered for five years on the compressor. Contact the place of purchase and give them your indications for your problem.
