Hello,

The reason you have the yellow and red light blinking is because thereis a system error. It mainly is a hardware problem that is why it isnot coming on.

You will have to troubleshoot the playstation before you will be able to enjoy it once again.

To troubleshoot it, you will also have to dismantle it and clean up itscomponents and reconnect it properly, then reassemble it back together.

To dismantle it, follow the steps below:

1. Pull the warranty sticker off of the bottom of the PS3.This will void your warranty, so make sure that the problem you are addressingis not covered by your warranty. Note that taking your PS3 to be repaired by someoneother than Sony will still void your warranty. You are not losing anything bytaking apart your PS3 yourself. Under the sticker will be a small piece ofrubber that hides a single screw. Remove the rubber piece and unscrew thescrew. 2. Slide the faceplate off of thePlayStation 3. After the faceplate is removed, you can now separate the twohalves of the plastic covering. Remove and set aside the top piece of theplastic case to expose the internal components of the PS3. On the underside of thetop plastic covering, there will be a memory card slot at the bottom-rightcorner. 3. Locate and remove the Bluetoothcircuit board. Remove the four screws to lift the Bluetooth board free. This islocated at the bottom-left corner of the main body of the PS3 if you have thesystem flat on its side instead of standing up straight. This will look like agreen rectangle with a tan metal covering. 4. Locate the small circuit board that controlsthe power and eject functions of the PlayStation 3. Remove the fourPhillips-head screws in order to separate this piece from the body of thesystem. This is located at the bottom-right corner of the PS3, directly infront of the disc box. 5. Locate and remove theBlu-Ray/PS3 player. This is the large tan metal box that is located in the topright corner of the PS3. Unscrew the player and flip it upside down to exposethe circuit board that controls it. If you want to remove the circuit board, there are five small screws that hold it in place. 6. Remove the power supply fromthe inside of the gaming system. This is located at the top-left corner insidethe PS3. To remove this component, there will be two telephone-like plugs thathave to be unplugged, one at the top and one at the bottom of the power supply.Additionally, there will be 13 screws that hold the power supply in place. Theback and front plastic coverings of the PS3's shell will now easily slide free. 7. Removethe final internal component, which is the PS3's motherboard. In order to dothis, remove the metal covering the rests on top of the motherboard. There willbe 11 screws that border the metal covering as well as four screws in the verycenter, two from each of the rectangular center pieces. Once the screws areremoved, the metal covering will lift off and the motherboard will be able tobe removed.

When you are to reassemble the ps back, secure it is properly connected.

If you are not familiar with such technical activities, i will strongly advice you seek professional assistance from a game technician.
Also check if you are still under the warranty period or purchase, to be able to take it back to the dealer that supplied it to you for better assistance.

    Take care and good luck

SOURCE: Playstation 3- described as the

Ok here is what I have for you
The Red light is due to the HDD (hard drive).
There is one of 2 problems:
1. The connection is loose or
2. The HDD is just bad.
This was an issue that has been discussed over in the Playstation forums and it seems that re-seating
(removing & reinstalling) the HDD has solved the problem for many but some people have just
received bad hard drives period.
If you reinstall the HDD & it still beeps 3 times & gives you the red light, then you will have to replace
your HDD.
The good news is you can pick up a hd fairly cheap, go to the electronics store and ask.. if you need step by step directions let me know I can help you out there as well!

SOURCE: light turns on, light turns yellow, light turns red and blinks.

Your ps3 has overheated. This is the equivilent to the red ring of death for xbox 360. The ps3 problem is called "yellow light of death" this means your ps3 has died due to the console being overheated. The solution to this problem is either getting a new playstation or take it to a shop in the UK and they could help you fix it for a price around £30-£50 GBP.

Bar light turns from green to yellow to blinking red

this is similar to the red blinking lights on the xbox360...it seems your cell processor has overheated resulting in a cold solder joint or worse bridged solder involving the BGA array...I have had some sucess in fixing these albeit limited. sony charges 150 plus state tax and sends you a refurbished unit.
