Hello,

The problem is a hardware problem, which is due to a failure in a component it the unit.
You will have to dismantle the playstation, clean it and couple it back together. To dismantle the playstation, follow the steps below:
1.

  • Pull the warranty sticker off of the bottom of the PS3. This will void your warranty, so make sure that the problem you are addressing is not covered by your warranty. Note that taking your PS3 to be repaired by someone other than Sony will still void your warranty. You are not losing anything by taking apart your PS3 yourself. Under the sticker will be a small piece of rubber that hides a single screw. Remove the rubber piece and unscrew the screw.
  • 2 Slide the faceplate off of the PlayStation 3. After the faceplate is removed, you can now separate the two halves of the plastic covering. Remove and set aside the top piece of the plastic case to expose the internal components of the PS3. On the underside of the top plastic covering, there will be a memory card slot at the bottom-right corner.
  • 3 Locate and remove the Bluetooth circuit board. Remove the four screws to lift the Bluetooth board free. This is located at the bottom-left corner of the main body of the PS3 if you have the system flat on its side instead of standing up straight. This will look like a green rectangle with a tan metal covering.
  • 4 Locate the small circuit board that controls the power and eject functions of the PlayStation 3. Remove the four Phillips-head screws in order to separate this piece from the body of the system. This is located at the bottom-right corner of the PS3, directly in front of the disc box.
  • 5 Locate and remove the Blu-Ray/PS3 player. This is the large tan metal box that is located in the top right corner of the PS3. Unscrew the player and flip it upside down to expose the circuit board that controls it. If you want to remove the circuit board, there are five small screws that hold it in place.
  • 6 Remove the power supply from the inside of the gaming system. This is located at the top-left corner inside the PS3. To remove this component, there will be two telephone-like plugs that have to be unplugged, one at the top and one at the bottom of the power supply. Additionally, there will be 13 screws that hold the power supply in place. The back and front plastic coverings of the PS3's shell will now easily slide free.
  • 7 Remove the final internal component, which is the PS3's motherboard. In order to do this, remove the metal covering the rests on top of the motherboard. There will be 11 screws that border the metal covering as well as four screws in the very center, two from each of the rectangular center pieces. Once the screws are removed, the metal covering will lift off and the motherboard will be able to be removed.

  • Have it cleaned and properly reverse the process to reassemble it back together.

Note: If you are still under the warranty period of purchase, you can take it back to the dealer that supplied it to you for their technical support.

    Take care and good luck

When I turn the PS3 on the green light goes on and then in a few seconds it turns to like yellow for like second and the flashes in red...

If the yellow light comes on when you turn on your ps3 then you have yellow light of death. This is bad because it means your ps3 has over heated and the chips have lost connection with the board. So to be able to play it (3 options) you would have to get a new one (what i did), fix your ps3(VERY HARD) You have to have lots of tools but you can do this if you search around for a guide cause i do not know how to and its very hard (im sorry) or (Easy but COSTLY) sending it to sony for 150$ repair. Sony's repair is garented because i know for a fact that they have a big exspensive machine that does it for them but you will get a new hard drive which means lets start all over. Im sorry for your loss

Ps3 starts up, fan is very loud, red light flashes and shuts off

Your most likely cause is the CPU or GPU is damaged due to over heating. This is usually not repairable. Red flashing lights are usually a bad hard ware warning. Try looking up flashing or fault codes for PS3 light patterns and check if any match up to the flashes you get. Another thing to indicate hardware failure is if it boots up at all. I'd like to give you better news but this is more then likely more an autopsy report then anything helpful.

My playstation wont turn on the red light shows and then i turn it on the light goes green and then a few seconds later goes back to red and shuts down again whats the problem?

Last person I knew that had this problem, I fixed it. Although he did lose all his save games... The OS software was corrupt. Here's what I did to fix it:
    1. Remove the hard drive and plug it into a computer that has a SATA connector on it's motherboard.
    2. Format the hard drive, any format will do.
    3. Download the latest update from Sony and save it to PS3\UPDATE folder on a flash drive.
    4. Reinstall the hard drive into your PS3 and allow it to reformat it. Turn off system after format is complete.
    5. Insert flash drive into USB port on PS3. Proceed with update.
    6. Restart system after update is complete, and enjoy all over again! =)

I'm sure if you really wanted your save games, there has to be an emulator out there somewhere, but then I don't know how you'd get it back on your hard drive after all is fixed... Honestly, lost save games is better than no PS3 at all...Hope this helps you and many others that had this same problem! =)

GREEN LIGHT FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS THEN RED. SYSTEM WILL NOT COME ON.

Try booting the PS3 with the hard drive removed.

Let me know if this changes anything, most of the time it doesn't, but we gotta start with the basics.

    PS3 start up problem

    Hi,
if the hard drives are interchangable or replaceable, i,d give that a try. Other than that it seems as if the bios-eeprom or memory chips are acting up.
I remember MS having the same problems with the 360. Overheating issues. if your consoles are warranted, get them replaced. If theres any sort of setup disk with these consoles ( as bought-demo et,c ) try starting up with that In.
