U may find a solution on the quickbooks website, but not likely. The solution may be to resave the older file in some other format that the new QB can read.

Right click on the error message select properties you will see all details about the error
or click start type in event viewer press ENTER
this should give you some sort of understanding of the error and
you might be able work your way through the problem

In a perfect world, a computer would run smoothly without any glitch or error.
Of course it isn't a perfect world, though, and PCs do come under the occasional error.
One of those, Error 1309, occurs when you install either Microsoft Office 2003 or Microsoft Office Project 2003.
It is due to an ordering issue in the program's installation.
There is no perfect order because many computers handle the software differently, but there is a fix for the error if it should ever come up.

Open "Notepad."
Click "Format." Make sure "Word Wrap" is not selected or enabled.

Click "Open" and then navigate to the folder "C:\ProgramFiles\MicrosoftOffice2003\Files\Setup." Scroll through the list of files and select "PROJPRO.XML."
Search the file for the section "OCLNCORE.OPC_1033."
Once found, there will be a "CATCHLEVEL=1" written next to it.
Change the 1 to 3 so it reads "CATCHLEVEL=3

Save the file. Make sure it is saved over the original file.
This will override the error message 1309 and keep it from appearing.

I installed a wierd bios on my compaq presario sr5710f desktop computer and am trying to reset the bios back to factory default. I have downloaded the bios setup file from hp's website and tried to...

Need more details on this situation. Was the Presario originally configured with Windows Vista Home Premium OS factory AND are you still running the original factory Windows Vista OS on it? I know that the original owner of my SR5710F had from the factory, Windows Vista Home Premium edition (32 bit). Compaq's website only shows 1 BIOS update available for this OS. If you try to run that executable file on any other version of Windows, you will get the error message that you described. I myself am working on being able to reflash the BIOS from a bootable CD/DVD/ or thumb drive. The executeable update to flash BIOS from Compaq's / HP's website indicates a version of 5.27. When I look at the CMOS memory, the screen reports a version of 5.31. How this happened in the life of this machine, I can only speculate. I do have the 3 dvd set which is supposed to re-image the hard drive to its factory released condition, but the load fails every time at the same place (3rd dvd, at 92% complete, with an error 1005). Compaq's / HP's web site does warn against flashing BIOS with any thing other than what the company certifies. I called Compaq tech support and their advice to me is to send in the motherboard. of which.. Im reluctant to do so as I am wanting to exhaust all the possible remedies before committing to buying a motherboard for upwards of 300.00 usd. Will stay in touch as things develop. Good Luck

Hi I am Farah, and as I wanted to download java , it came thet" " is not valid win 32 application'. What shoudl I do? Thx

It is possible that you are attempting to install a 64-bit version of Java when you have a 32-bit operating system. Check your operating and confirm this. In Vista you can find this using Start > Control Panel > System. This is similar if you have Windows 7. Here is what it looks like:

pcjanitor.jpg
If after that you, you follow these instructions from Sun (Java) to locate and install the 32-bit version.

Error: x64.exe not a valid Win32 application This article applies to:
  • Platform(s): Windows 7, Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 2003
  • Browser(s): Internet Explorer, Firefox, Mozilla 1.4+
  • Java version(s): 6.0
SYMPTOMS

While trying to install Java a user gets an error message similar to:
' ... x64.exe not a valid Win32 application'

CAUSE

The error message is a result of trying to install a 64-bit version of Java on a 32-bit operating system.
SOLUTION

User needs to install a 32-bit version of Java software, since a 64-bit version is not compatible with their 32-bit operating system.

Follow these steps to download 32-bit Java
  1. Go to Manual download
  2. Click Windows XP/Vista/2000/2003/2008 Online.
  3. The File Download dialog box appears.
  4. Choose the folder location.
  5. (Save the file to a known location on your computer, for example, to your desktop).
  6. Click Save.
  7. Close all applications including the browser.
  8. Double-click on the saved file icon to start the installation process.

Error Message 'F:\ setup.exe is not a valid win32 application'

This issue can be caused by any of the below possibilities.
  1. File is corrupt, bad, or missing.
  2. File is not designed for your version of Windows.
  3. File is a virus, worm, or other malware file.
  4. Hardware incompatibility.
Answer: File is corrupt, bad, or missing
If the file or program you're attempting to run is corrupt or missing, Windows will be unable to execute the file properly and sometimes generate this error message.
Download files
If you downloaded this file and verified it is complete and compatible with your version of Windows, delete the file and try downloading and running it again. It's possible during the download that the file became corrupted.
Finally, if the second download does not work, try downloading the file from a different webpage. It is possible that the person or company maintaining the website mistakenly uploaded a corrupt version of the file you're attempting download.
Installing a program from a CD or other disk
If you're attempting to install a program and are getting this error, verify that the CD is clean. If the CD is dirty or bad, you could get this error during the install and/or get this error after the program has been installed because it was not copied properly onto the computer.
  • Additional information about cleaning a CD can be found on our cleaning page.
Running a program from the computer
If you're running the program from a shortcut on the computer, verify that the program is still on the computer. In some cases if the program is no longer installed on the computer you may get this error.
If the hard disk drive is corrupted or bad it can also cause working programs to fail either because not all the data can be read from the hard disk drive or because the program has become corrupted while on the drive. Run scandisk and defrag on the hard disk drive to check for any potential errors.
Long file name issue
Make sure the program or file you're attempting to run does not contain the same name as the long file name directory it is contained in. For example, executing a file named "program" in the "program files" directory can cause errors in some versions of Windows.
Additionally, if you're attempting to install a program and after the install the program does not work, you may also want to try installing the program in a different directory.
Bad file
Any file can be changed or renamed to be a .exe file. If you're downloading the file, make sure the file is supposed to be a .exe file and that it's not being changed. If you're attempting to create a .exe, file make sure you're compiling the file for Windows and never just rename a file to a .exe file. For example, renaming a .bat file to a .exe file will not make the file an executable file. For a file to become an executable file it needs to either be compiled or converted through a software program designed to convert the file.
File is not designed for your version of Windows
If you're trying to run a program that is not designed for your version of Windows you may get this error. Although many older programs designed to work in older versions of Windows will work with new versions of Windows, unfortunately, not all programs will work.
  • If the program is an older MS-DOS program or early Windows program you may get this error.
  • If the program is designed for a 64-bit version of Windows and you're running it in a 32-bit version of Windows, it will not work and generate this error.

Cannot use reader 8.0,cannot remove it or install 9.0

oddly enough, you may find that updating the version 8.0 you have to 8.x will then allow you to remove it (or it will work correctly) can you open the reader manually in the programs list? if so open it, then go to help and check for updates. apply the updates. If they work you should be in good shape.

Nero 7 essentials disc but when i try to install it it comes up with message this version dose not support vista

Windows Vista is supported by Nero 7 since the version Nero 7.5.7.0.. Older versions of Nero 7 do not support Windows Vista. If you are trying to install Nero 7 from your original disc it is likely that there is an older version included on this disc. If you want to install Nero 7 on Windows Vista please be sure that you will only use latest Nero 7 version, you can download from the below website. Also please be sure that there won't be any rests of old Nero 7 versions on your system by performing the following steps:

1.
Start uninstalling all old Nero 7 applications and files from your computer using the Nero 7 CleanTool

Download the Nero 7 CleanTool using the following link:
Save this file to your desktop.
Unzip the ZIP-file with WinZip or WinRAR and save the content to your hard drive.
Double-click on the unzipped EXE-file to start the CleanTool.
The window “Nero General Clean Tool” will open. The installed Nero version will be displayed.
Activate the checkboxes in the displayed Nero version.
Then click the “Clean” button.
A status window will open.
The execution of the tool may take several minutes.
Please wait until the progress bar has moved completely to the right.
In the window “Nero General Clean Tool” click the “Exit” button as soon as the erasing procedure is completed.
Reboot your computer.
The Nero 7 CleanTool has removed all Nero entries from your computer.

2.
To install the latest Nero 7 version, please proceed as follows:
(Note: do not install a previous Nero 7 version from an installation CD now, but download and install the latest version of Nero 7 from our website. All Nero 7 download versions have the full range of functions as an original Nero 7 installation CD. There is no need to install a previous version of Nero first.)

Download and install the latest Nero 7 version from website using the following link:
Save this file to your desktop.
Double-click the downloaded Nero 7 installation file to start the installation.
Enter your Nero 7 serial number during the installation to make your Nero into a permanent version. (The download without a serial number is a trial version only).
You now have a newly installed version of Nero 7 on your computer.

QB Ed 2008, When I

Error -6177 means that the file is not accessible at the location QuickBooks is trying to open it.

The reasons for this may be:
1. The network is offline. Make sure that the directory is available or that you're still connected to the network.
2. The file was deleted by someone else available on the network.
3. If you have recently updated Quickbooks from an earlier version, then the cause may be a bug with the product itself. It has been reported by other users that they experience Error 6177 everytime they try to open a previously existing file.

Try the following link. Might help:

You might need some additional program. Click the link above(or copy & paste). Might need .NET Framework 1.1 or it might just be some bugs in Vista that is not compatible with the program your trying to install. Vista still has some problems.
