DVD-"Golden Door" I inserted the DVD properly into my computer to watch it but my computer did not respond. What can I do?

Do you have DVD playing software. You need software to play a DVD. Are you sure that you have a DVD Rom?

Dear Scott,

If there is a CD stuck inside a CD/DVD reader, you could try using a medium sized paper clip straightened up. Insert it in the small hole in the front of the DVD player bezel and push it till it opens the mechanism. Please, have a look at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fa_4CsS7MKw

The problem can also be caused if one of the rubber band that moves the DVD drive "door" has dried out, or even if the power supply in not properly connected to the drive.

Can not burn a dvd


Sounds like you have to Re-Install the software, or repair if possible

Stiffy drive don't respond and DVD Rom spin but don't read CD.


Try different discs to determine whether it's the disc or the drive. If it's the drive the the lens on drive might be dirty, try cleaning it with proper "Cleaning CD" if that doesn't help the drive it self might be going out (as in the mechanical parts on the drive). In the later case the only solution is buy a new drive.

* please check dvd rom cable(ide cable) is connected properly

* check powerconnecter is connected tight
jumper settings:
-------------------------

* set ur hdd as master

* dvd rom as slave in ide1

* set master to dvd writer in ide 2

Hi, If there is a disc in the drive it's possible that it has become jammed and therefore will not allow the door to open. If you get a large paperclip and bend out one side you will find there is a little hole in the front of the drive. Insert the straightened end of the paperclip carefully into the hole until you feel resistance. Gently but firmly you will need to apply an amount of force and the door will pop open. Remove the disc and restart the computer, hopefully the drive will now respond as required.

If not then possibly the door mechanism band/spring has become too loose or broken. At least these days CD/DVD drive are not too expensive to replace.

BSOD when trying to install Win XP, or boot Win XP from hard drive BSOD screen is as follows: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor or visit http://www.hardware-update.com for an updated BIOS. If you are unable to obtain an updated BIOS or the latest BIOS supplied by your vendor is not ACPI compliant, you can turn off ACPI mode during text mode setup. To do this, simply press the F7 key when you are prompted to install storage drivers. The system will not notify you that the F7 key was pressed - it will silently disable the ACPI and allow you to continue your installation. Technical information: *** STOP: 0x000000A5 (0x00000011, 0x00000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) Every BSOD I received was this exact code. I ran a RAM test with memtest86+, it showed 0 errors. I tried reinstalling BIOS v 1.1 (supplied by Toshiba) and the first time it did let me boot into the XP Home installed on the system, after which it worked fine. While in xp, I checked device manager to see if the system was ACPI, and it was. I've also tried BIOS v 1.2, the last one supplied by Toshiba, to no avail. I did try pressing F7 during one of the installation attempts, and it hung at "setup is starting windows", I tried pressing F5 during an attempt, and there was only one option besides "other", the typical i486, which I selected, after which it hung at "setup is starting windows". I've flashed BIOS with v 1.2 a few times now, with same BSOD during both xp install attempts and boot attempts. What baffles me is the errors did not show up until I tried to install xp for the first time. Before that the computer booted every time. I've never heard of xp effecting BIOS during install. I have been to the microsoft support page for this BSOD. There are two articles on this specific code that I found, one for a "wake from hibernation" error, and the other for an xp installation error, seems as though the latter applies here. The screen is broken, so I'm using an external monitor. He doesn't want the monitor fixed, so I'm only doing a fresh install + Backup for him. Thank god I already backed up the data.
