Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

1 Answer

Canon EOS Rebel XT with EFS 18-55mm lens. Trouble-free for two years. During a weekend of lots of use, suddenly the camera would not autofocus. Switching to manual focus, the camera worked. Then it started working okay in autofocus. Later that day quit altogether. (Would not release shutter even in manual mode.) Removed the lens and cleaned the contacts on both lens and camera, started working okay but only temporary. Went through several cycles of this over the weekend, so I'm not sure that dirty contacts were the sole culprit. One cleaning was done with alcohol wipes. Could there be an electronics problem, or do I simply need a more thorough cleaning?

This sounds like a broken ribbon cable in the lens Take it for repair This type of repair is relatively inexpensive but get a quote as it may be cheaper to replace the lens with a secondhand one.

SOURCE: Error 99 only when flash pops up

We ended up sending the camera in to Canon. $200 unless they find something more wrong. Luckily we have my Nikon D80 still. I will say that Canon replied via e-mail fairly quickly and one paid, said 7-10 business days for the repair.

SOURCE: Camera won't shoot with lens on Auto Focus

Talked to canon support, they suggested to send lense in for review/repair. They said it could be the motor, I think it was a gear problem based on the noises and jerkiness of the focusing action while in manual focus (manual focus gave out as well). Cost TBD - "would definately be more than $50. I shopped around and elected to buy a new lense rather than try to hassle with the repair, shipping, insurance, and the wait, etc. Besides, I have a deadline that I need the lense for, so repair at Canon really became a non-option. I think the cost would've been pretty much the same in the end as the new lense, since this wasn't one of the costlier of lenses to begin with.

SOURCE: Canon 400d constant backfocus

Backfocus problems will be magnified when using wide aperture lens with shallow depth of field, nice lens btw. Camera's adjustments for manual and autofocus are inside mirror cage behind mirror, and you dont want to risk getting dust on sensor or damaging sensor. Qualified camera repair shop or sending to canon for adjustment would be my suggestion.

Quantaray lens

You did not mention which lens. Some Canon digital cameras will only take EFS lens, others take both EF and EFS. Also there are other types of lens mounts made by Canon.

My husband broke a friend's camera lens.

On the Canon website, I cannot find both part numbers. The lens you are naming is a Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (Image Stabalizer) USM Autofocus Lens. The bottom line is if that it is designed for the EOS camera system. You should be fine with this lens. I do not believe there are two different lenses. Are these numbers from the "same" supplier?

Will a quantaray 28-105 1:3.8-5.4 Zoom lens Autofocus from a 35mm rebel ti fit on Canon EOS Digital Rebel 6.3 MP 300D?

The 35mm Rebel Ti and the Rebel 300D use the same lens mounting protocol. All Canon cameras designated 'EOS' use the autofocus EF lenses. If your Quantaray lens worked on the Rebel Ti, it will fit and should work on the Rebel 300D.

Canon Rbl XT out of focus in viewfndr when shutter half way down

Hello,
It's possible that the reason the "pictures turn out fairly good" is that your f-stop is set high enough that even though the image isn't properly focused, you have enough depth-of-field to bring your subject into "near focus". Does your lens try to focus back and forth when you half-press the shutter? If not, double check that the lens is in autofocus and not manual focus. You can also try cleaning the contacts between the lens and camera. Take the lens off, and then one-at-a-time clean the contacts on both the lens and the camera, using a clean pencil eraser. Gently rub the contacts. Be sure to hold the item upside down so that the eraser debris falls on to the table, not into the camera body or lens!

If none of this helps the autofocus may have become damaged and you need to have the lens and camera looked at by Canon Repair.

Canon Rebel Xti Wont autofocus

I dropped my camera and thought the autofocus broke. It turn out that it swithed from autofocus to manual focus. There's a switch on the lens. Check if that's your problem too.

Error 99 only when flash pops up

I know what you two are talking about. I ordered a Canon EOS 300d from a site called "Keh" and I had never used one before... so I get it in the mail on time. The camera works fine for a few minutes then I get an "error 99" and can't do jack with the camera. I researched online and even called keh ... I read and heard that it has to do with the lens... so I sen't the camera back and got my money.
