Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I was installing my new Lexmark X4850 printer and while using the install disc, the following popped up: "this has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify it's compatability with Windows XP. Contact the hardware vendor." It gave me the option of continuing the install (which I did) or terminating the install. Am I compromising the security of my PC by installing it anyway? I run XP

In fact, you are compromising the security to some degree. And the degree depends on where this driver thing came from. If it is some strange solution from nobody, you'd better don't touch it. While it is bundled with you lexmark printer in a install disc, probably it's no harm at all.

Cannot use Lexmark X4850 printer without installation disc.

Hi,

You should be able to go to the lexmark.com web site and search for your printer. Go to downloads and enter your printer description or X4850. This is the result I got. If your computer is running Windows, then you need to get either the download for 32 bit or 64 bit software. See microsoft.com link to tell the difference.

Can't connect wirelessly to a lexmark x4850

Try:
  1. write down the MAC address of your Lexmark,
  2. log into the router and reserve an IP address with that MAC
  3. Setup the Wireless parameters (SSID, Encryption to WPA or WPA2 Personal, assign a Pass Phrase you can remember. Then save the config and reset the router.
  4. on the Lexmark console, navigate to wireless settings and configure with the matching parameters as set in step 3.
  5. If the wireless connection is matched and connected, open up Internet Browser and type in the IP address in Step 2
  6. It should have a web-interface allowing you to customize it.
  7. Install the printer with the driver disc but should now look for a Networked option. or simply Add or Change the Port of your existing Printer's Properties.

Lexmark X4850 wireless how to make it find the wireless network. I've had this printer working with my Vista laptop till recently; then I moved to another area, configured my new home network and Internet...

If the printer itself is wireless, it does not need to recognize your wireless computer network. Call Lexmark to walk you through proper installation. Lexmark's manuals are not adequate regarding setup, in my opinion.
