Question about Roper REX4634KQ Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Roper dryer model RED4440 will not tumble. Belt is good. Unit has power. Heat elements heat up. Motor does not turn. No hum. I replaced motor same problem. I want to check both motors to see if they are both good or both bad. How do I check them. If good, what should I check next. With dryer plugged, on both fluff only and heat. I get voltage to motor.

My Maytag Performa Dryer model PDET920AYW will heat but drum will not turn. Belt is not broken. Can you help?

It is possible that the motor start/run capacitor has failed, rendering the motor unable to get going. The capacitor will look something like this

Whirlpool LER 6620 heats, but does not tumble.

if the dryer heats the motor should be good. if it hums its either runing or the hum is a stall noise . if belt is in tact then if motor were going so would the drum . so i think the motor isn't going just humming and the heat sw in the motor is stuck closed with lint and you need to replace the motor .. take the belt off and turn motor if it turns free . the blow it out good and reinstall belt and try again ..mm

Whirlpool dryer WED5530SQ0, heats but does not run

So,. basically your drum doesnt turn. SO your getting heat still even though the drum isnt turning. Is this right? Sounds strange??? Do you hear any humming noise when you push the start button? I need to know a little more about the problem because im kinda confused as how you decribed the problem. Iv never seen a dryer heat but the drum not spinning. especially your model dryer. Its electric heat right? because if the drum doesnt spin, maybe your motor is bad. and if your motor is bad, then your heating element wont heat up because the centrifical switch in the motor is not switching to complete the circuit to the heating element. So this is why im confused when you said" Dryer heats when knob turned but when "push button" pressed, drum doesnt run." Because your belt wraps around the motor pully and the motor is what makes the drum turn. Like i said, i never seen this model dryer heat with out the motor operating. So if you can give me some more info, ill do my best to help you out....Thanks!!!!

Dryer won't heat--element replaced; tumbles fine

Before you purchase any more parts, you should have use of a multi meter. If the dryer is not heating at all, and of the following parts could be bad.......Operating (cycling) thermostat, high limit thermostat, thermal fuse, timer, or motor centrifugal switch. All but the motor switch can be easily checked with the dryer UNPLUGGED using the ohms feature of the meter.

Kenmore 90 series elec dryer, replaced heating element, checked the thermal fuse, its okay, still no heat, dryer still tumbles,. air is being forced, running out of ideas...

Several things to check. Be sure you have the correct voltage to the unit.
Since this is an electrical heated device, it is loaded with safety switches. There is sometimes a thermal overload,or clix-on bimetal device in the exhaust inside the rear of the unit. If your exhaust becomes restricted, it will take the heater out of the circuit. If you do not have enough air flow, the element would burn up/ out. I would look around again as I'm sure there are other safety devices as the one I mentioned as well as one near the element to prevent overheating.
The timer is also responsible for sending power to the element as well as the motor.

Good Luck and hope this helps.

Won't run

If "won't run" meaning; "does not tumble/spin" this can be a couple things;

1. Defective Drive Belt (Likely): Broken or jammed (not properly attached to motor/pulley). Nothing will happen when pressing start; unit will not heat or rotate/tumble. "Normal ware and tear"

2. Defective Door Switch (Very likely) - Very common due to constant "slamming" of door. The door switch enables power to be passed through-out machine when door closes for safety purposes. Switch located at door area and can be tested for continuity. "Nothing will happen when pressing start; unit will not heat or tumble/turn". * Fairly easy to replace; two mounting screws.

3. Defective/Jammed Motor (Rare, but possible): You may hear a "humming noise" and burning smell. Also, excessive lint in blower housing may jam the motor from rotating. "Does not come on; does not tumble/turn"

Remember to disconnect power from unit before servicing.

Whirlpool Ultimate care ii Dryer wont tumble

If your dryer doesn't tumble, check these:
Belt,
Motor,
Door switch.

Your dryer can't operate at all if the door switch is defective. It's inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.
Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time.
If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor:

Remove the belt,
Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing,
Manually rotate the shaft of the motor.

If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor.

If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again.

Go here to see a diagram for your model:
one of two types. "H" or "J"
