Question about Washing Machines

There is a loud "knocking" noise during the Spin cycle - it doesn't start until it's near top speed but it sounds like it's seconds away from exploding!

Thanks so much for your response! It's gotta be something like that. . . we can't really lift the tub but it seems loose from front to back. Is this an easy fix? My hubby's pretty handy. Or should I call a tech? Not too many options in Show Low for Good appliance repair. . . =/
I can see 4 shocks - but the outer tub is barely moving when this noise is racketing away. =)

The noise definitely seems to be originating at the back in the middle of the tub and sounds like someone is beating it with a bat!

SO, it ended up being a bracket on the back of the metal tub was completely cracked and while it was spinning it was knocking against the plastic tub and ended up scraping a groove into the plastic tub and there were little plastic shavings everywhere including underneath the seal around the tub by the door. Sears wanted $1400 to replace the metal and plastic tub - they said the "Lifetime" Warranty on the parts is only to the original owner. We ended up buying the parts for $450 and my amazing Hubby did the work.

Hi just read your posting to the other tech and I am now sure it is the main bearings and main seal on your machine that is faulty. If you could supply the make and model number of your machine I can help you further. Looking forward to your reply.

Hi just read your posting.1st thing to do is to open the door and grab the steel bowl that the clothes go into. Now see if it has any movement on the bearings.Your husband can probably tell that the bowl has faulty bearings by gently rocking the bowl from side to side for movement.By the way please do not mistake the movement of the tank and bowl on the suspension rods for movement in the main bearings. Also turn the steel drum by hand and if you hear the bearings then the main seal and bearings need to be replaced. Please reply on what you find and I can guide you from there.Looking forward to your reply.

Loud noises during spin cycles

Hello, If the noise is a squealing or grinding sound, you are likely looking at a bad seal and bearing.
If the noise is a knocking sound, it's more likely a suspension or out of balance condition.
Thanks

Whirlpool washing machine make loud noise after spin cycle quits. Noise continues until cycle winds down. Sounds like a machine gun being fired

Hello, have to tell you that most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping noise during the spin, the load of cloth may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the cloths, then restart the machine. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Thanks

Extremely loud noise during spin cycle of my Neptune dryer--just started happening in the last month. The dryer is probably 7-8 years old, so it's not the newer Neptune model.

cabrio and calypso have some issues with either main bearing problems or brake drive issues, either or this is an expensive fix, so if you have an extended wty, call your service provider, if not, just replace it, repair most likely in excess of 600.

Thumping/knocking/rattles during wash agitation cycle

Mine is doing the same thing. I opened it up to see what was happening and it was the drive belt tension arm bumping around. Soon, the belt started slipping during the spin cycle. Now it won't spin and the belt starts to smolder from the friction of the drive motor. If you haven't checked your belt, that's a good place to start.
