It is not the original print cartidge. The printer sat idle for a month.I have now replaced 2 new black ink cartridges so it is not the cartridge.

I don't have the previous black cartridge. There is a little bit of wet ink on the cartridge area and more on the printhead.
Are there any products apart from magic bullet that would work?

  • Nicola Godfrey Oct 18, 2010

Still not working. I am so frustrated and went out and bought a cheap printer.

Disconnect the printer from the system. Now run a printer self-test(review manual) and check results. If no black output, its a printer problem. In most cases, inspect the innards for any possible massive leaks or clogs. I like to tear apart the printer and test connections and such, but in many cases inspect the printhead wire harness is fully seated and properly aligned.A cracked wire harness of the flat ribbon is very possible.the cost of repair is too much and actual replacement is the best course of action to resolve problem.

The below steps will show you how to clean your print head. If you still have trouble you may need to have the printhead replaced.

---------------------------

To clean the printheads

NOTE: Cleaning uses ink, so clean the printheads only when necessary.

The cleaning process takes up to 3.5 minutes. Some noise might be generated in

the process.

Control panel: Press the Setup button, select Tools, and then select Clean

Printhead.

Embedded Web server: Click the Device Settings tab, click Device Services in

the left pane, select Clean printheads from the drop-down list in the Print Quality

section, and then click Run Diagnostic.

Toolbox (Windows): Click the Services tab, and then click Clean Printheads
and follow the onscreen instructions.
-----------------------------------
This link has the manual cleaning steps starting on page 147.

Hello,

if you insert the previous black cartridge does it print? remove the cartridge, is there wet ink on the area? If there is and If it does not print, then the nozzles on the black ink printerhead are blocked due to dried ink.

product like magic bullet can get it working normally again.

The HP88 black cartridge contains is a pigment ink type which I've found from painful experience has just not been tested properly by HP for use with this printhead.

The problem will not be the cartridge but most likely the printhead which will have clogged due to heat, lack of humidity, etc..

Did you stock the computer for a long period of time? You should be able to use the printer right away if you just replaced the cartridge. Are you using the original HP cartridge?

I see. the problem with generic cartridge is 50% percent of that wont work. If you notice there is a chip outside the cartridge and this chip is responsible for the printer to recognized the cartridge. If this chip does not belong to HP then you have a 50/50 chances that the printer will not recognized the cartridge. Try to purchase the original cartridge and you will see that your printer will detect the cartridge right away. I have experienced that problem before and now i learned that i need to buy original cartridges.

Need to print black only but low colour cartridges cause error

Most likely you cannot. If you do not have any of the colour cartridges with ink in them, the print heads will dry out and when you want to print in colour you will not be able to print in colour.

I have a new black ink cartridge but my printer wont print because the color ink is empty is there a way to get it to print without refilling the colored ink since i only need black???

When printing in BLACK, a small amount of the COLOUR ink also is used.
This "trick" prevents the COLOUR ink-jets from clogging, due to not being used.

So, you need to have a "good" COLOUR ink-cartridge.

Epson sx200 printer, wont print black ink only

Many printers especially Photo ones also use colour even when printing Black. so you do need to replace the spent colour cartridge.

If you only need to print in black get a B&W printer not a colour one.

Colour cartridge missing but I only want to print

No you cannot. Each one of your cartridges is smart chipped. When this cartridge registers as empty it acts as an on/off switch thus turning the printer off.'

You need to replace the empty cartridge in order to print.

Go printer settings and check option to print only black.

Colour Ink Jet Cartridges emptying during a black ink print run

Hi,
If you go to your printer properties, there should be a setting whereby you have to select the option to "PRINT USING BLACK CARTRIDGE ONLY". Make sure this option is selected, otherwise your printer will use ALL colors even if you only print black.
Let me know if you need any further assistance.
Best wishes,
Graemevm

My printer will not accept a new black cartridge.

ITS NOT THE BLACK CARTRIDGE!!! Try changing the colour cartridge and see what happens. When a 9600 checks ink levels it does the black ink first, then the colour, if the colour is low it goes back and checks the black again but will constantly give an error message for the black cartridge. Sounds bizarre but try just the black cartridge in with no colour. print a test page in black only, if that does not print then it is a fault. Also make sure the driver is updated!!!

Does not print black

Most likely you have no black cartridge installed or it is empty causing your printer to use the colour cartridge for black. But if your colour cartridge has 1 colour which is less full than the others it causes black to become greenish or sometimes reddish depending on which colour is less. A new cartridge or a black cartridge will solve the problem.

its ok I solved it! I didn't realise that all the photo cartridge does is gloss over the colour picture produced by the colour cartridge. I simply had to replace the colour cartridge which had run out, so now its all working perfectly!!
