We installed AVG 8.0 on the server of our small office network on Saturday 31/05/08. However we now have "Big Problems" trying to access our S6 system on E:\ drive. (Solution6 accounting and taxation programmes.) When we go through "My Computer" to our Network Drives, we see the message "S6 System on Ser.... Disconnected Network Drive. An error occurred while re-connecting E: to \\Server\S6SYSTEM Microsoft Windows Network: The network path was not found. This connection has not been restored. Please advise a.s.a.p. as we are unable to process any data until the problem is solved.

Hi,

Installing an anti-virus would be problematic on a server due to the many clients that would be constantly accessing files. Often, the server would also be lagging in responding since most of its time would be attending to requests and verification and anti-virus check of the accessing program from the client(s). Having said that, perhaps it would be to your advantage to install standard AVG on all of the clients and a AVG Anti-Virus Network Edition on the server.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi,

Did you try uninstalling the AVG?Next you can also try a system restore but make sure you take a backup of all your important data.Bcuz once you do a system restore then you'll loose all your data as it will be restored to an earlier time.

Goodluck..

do you get any error messages? open cmd from another computer and ping the pc in question (assuming this pc gets an ip). if "ping" works then try net view \\computer name or ip. you should be able to see the shares or get an access denied usually 5.
Try that and let me know what you got so that i might understand the root of the problem.

Set up and Use Internet Connection Sharing

Hi,

To enable Internet Connection Sharing on a network connection

You must be logged on to your computer with an owner account in order to complete this procedure.
Open Network Connections. (Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double–click Network Connections.)

Click the dial–up, local area network, PPPoE, or VPN connection you want to share, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.

On the Advanced tab, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box.
If you want this connection to dial automatically when another computer on your home or small office network attempts to access external resources, select the Establish a dial–up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet check box.

If you want other network users to enable or disable the shared Internet connection, select the Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet connection check box.

Under Internet Connection Sharing, in Home networking connection, select any adapter that connects the computer sharing its Internet connection to the other computers on your network. The Home networking connection is only present when two or more network adapters are installed on the computer.

To configure Internet options on your client computers for Internet Connection Sharing

Open Internet Explorer. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Internet Explorer.)

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

On the Connections tab, click Never dial a connection, and then click LAN Settings.

In Automatic configuration, clear the Automatically detect settings and Use automatic configuration script check boxes.

In Proxy Server, clear the Use a proxy server check box.

Good luck!

Good morning! If you receive a "1920" error regarding failure to start a McAfee Service when trying to update or install Mcafee VirusScan, follow the instructions below.

  1. Uninstall McAfee VirusScan Enterprise using the "Add/Remove Programs" option in the Control Panel.
  2. If present, delete c:\Program Files\Network Associates and c:\Program Files\Common Files\Network Associates
  3. Go to the Start menu, select Run, and type regedit .
  4. Find and delete the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates.
  5. Restart the computer.
  6. Install McAfee VirusScan Enterprise and update the software.

Have aproblem getting on the internet. problem with network adapt

Hello,

First - try step one- If that doesn't work, try step two.

Many virus scanners prevent programs from accessing the internet. Please go to download.avg.com This user manual will show you what settings you you can put your new software at to access the internet.

2. If that doesn't work- restore the system to the day before you added the software

Thats True, its probably a trial, but heres some actual help.

Remove Mcaffe all together, un-install that crappy software, never think about it again. It uses way to much resources from your computer and it bugs you every mintute with something.

Heres the good part.

Go to GRISOFT.COM
in the search field at the top, do a search for AVG FREE
select the first link that says AVG FREE EDITION FOR WINXP/VISTA.

Scroll down and look to the left next to the Check marks.

Slect the download for the free version.

when the screen opens, click the download version 8.0 and when its done, install it and run the updates.

Its all easily installed and requires little on your part. Its a completely Free with no adds or junk, Anti virus.

I have used them for 8 years and have never regreated it.

They design Network Server anti Virus software but have the free version for personal computer. Its great and it runs smooth and discreet in the taskbar. Any other questions, let me know.

heres the direct link if it makes it easier.

Good luck and enjoy.

I installed the online AVG 8 update and now I cannot connect to the other computer in the secretaries office. Please help me.

Your firewall or AVG is most likely blocking the access, what you need to do is go into the settings of it to check the blocked applications and make sure that you can get to the other computer.
