Question about Vacuums

Bosch canister vac BSG81313. Took cover off to remove lots of hair, dirt etc from running without bag in place. Everything went back together OK, but cord reel spring went zip when cover was removed. How do I rewind the spring so there is tension when the cord is pulled out ? Wound cord back onto reel, but reel just clicks ever revolution etc...no tension when cord is pulled out of vac. Bob

need an answer from someone who has worked on the Bosch vac reels before

  • beartown_nh Oct 14, 2010

I expected an answer, not discouragement.
Again...anyone have any specific experience with the Bosch cord reels?

the spring didnt break...it unraveled when I took the cover off the vac !

  • beartown_nh Oct 15, 2010

tried that...spool has no tension building when rotated. What must be done to make spring catch while cover is off ?

  • beartown_nh Oct 16, 2010

It did take a lot of patience, as well as patience to put the Bosch back together again, but the cord reel is working great. Spring was completely wound up in the small round area. Had to pull it out, attach to the notch, wind a few turns around the reel. Thanks !

Nice job. Appreciate constructive comments instead of the "dont try it..springs are dangerous" comments I got from some others. Also, FYI, the Bosch reels have 2 slide contacts that mate with the circuit board. Alignment is critical when reassembling.

The spring inside the hub of the cord wheel has escaped from the locking tab. You must completely dismantle the vacuum to access the cord wheel - take it out, reattach the spring and reassemble the unit. All you need is a phillips screwdriver, a pair of pliers and some patience.

Take the cord off the spool. Wind the spool in the assembly so the cord does not tangle or twist. Once it is tight and will not turn any more. Back off one full turn. Then let the tensioned spool wind in the cord.

Speaking from bitter experience in trying to rewind, several of those retractable spring mechanisms. The short answer is, one can't. It must be done with a machine, also often the spring metal itself breaks where it is mounted and this is why it unravels, also it is very sharp and can cut you badly indeed, again, from experience..lol In saying that though, if you have enough, time, tools and gloves and can find a way to stop it springing out when trying to rewind it back into the housing.. then it may be worth a try. If it were me, knowing what i know now, though, I would simply replace it with a new one, or take in in for professional repair/replacement.

We do it very often on our Honda Power spray. You have to remove the whole assembly and refix the spring after winding it fully and then reassemble it.

Miele S7210 red light on

You may have more dog hair in the main hose. Pull the hose out of the body, turn the lower hose swivel 90 degrees parallel to the floor and twist the hose off. You will see where to remove it at the swivel. Also check the port door on the back of the vacuum near the bottom of the upper section. It can be looks like a parallelogram with 2 plastic screws, twist the screws half a rotation and gently pry the cover off. After clearing out any debris, replace the cover and fasten the screws. A small LED flashlight will be very handy for checking all of the ports and hoses.

Belt is broken. Not sure how to replace

1. Get a long screw driver (probably phillips head) a strip of tape.
2. Look around underneath your vac for screws... look carefully because sometimes they are sneaky and hidden in weird areas like under the wheels, etc.
3. Take screws out stick them in order on tape turned upwards. (remember how you took them out.)
4. Gently remove the bottom cover.
5. Clean and remove debris, hair, dust bunnies, rocks... whatever.
6. Determine where the belt goes, disengage the beater bar on that side (may need to unscrew something) Belt on beater bar gears. Other end of belt on motor end... then stretch belt with beater bar until it fits back in it's place and replace any screws, etc.
7. Make sure the belt is seated properly.
8. replace cover, screws... test.**

** sometimes belts require that you put a twist in them so it can transition from the motor's direction to the beater bar's direction... if you twist the wrong way... the beater bar will spit dirt out the front of the vac.. (it's bulldozing it) In that case remove cover and twist the belt the other way.

Good luck.

No suction on floor part

From your problem description, you may have a blockage in the foot. Check the intake under the vac by the roller.

Sounds like it is over heating do to a dirty filter. Or there is something blocking the air flow in the vacuum.

Where does the hepa filter go

Look for a removeable grille at the top or back of the vac shaped similar to the filtter. The filter is an after filter so it sits beyond the bag

Motor runs fine and hose not clogged will not pickup dirt

This may sound silly, but have you checked the belt? A lot of Eureka vacuums use the vac motor to run the brush, and if the brush is not running the vacuum won't pick up. Another thing to check is the condition of the fan blades.. if they get worn they will push air out of the exhaust ports, but not push enough air to pull the dirt into the vacuum bag. Another thing to check is the length of the bristles on the brush... you can change a lot of the bristle strips and save the cost of a whole brush roll.. All of these fixes are under $10.00 (Belt: $1-2, Brush Strip $3-6, Fan $5-10) at most places.

Take it to your local vac shop and let them diagnose it. You are within warranty so if it is clogged warranty will not cover that, but everything else warranty will cover.

Bosch BSA2222UC canister vacuum shuts off after 5 minutes

You have a plugged vacuum indicator port. There will be a tiny hole somewhere near the hose inlet. Just clean it with a dry toothbrush. This will allow the vacuum pressure to equalize on either side of the shut off switch.

Electrolux vacuum turning off

hi take off canister cover remove bag now if you look inside canister you will/should see a gauze type filter at the opposite end of canister from where bag locks in ?? remove this gauze filter and for now just shake tap on floor to remve dust/debri etc /from it this gauze is the filter that when vac is working andfilling the dust bag ? the pressure of air only that blows bag up but allows only air to pass thro the microscopic holes in bag ? then has to expel via the gauze filter to exterior ? and any dust etc that is clever enough to seep through the bag ??? will not pass further due to gauze ? and so prevents this blowing back into room ok so far ?? if this gauze is blocked due to whatever ?? then pressure build up in canister will result in cover lifting? this is provided that the fault is not the actual cover securing latch is ok and not damaged ? hope this explains and helps ? best wishes from uk !

Intermittent Power brush

I would first check where the hose attaches to the canister. There are 3 power leads; if one is bent, this might produce what you describe. You might even try wiggling this connection to see if it affects operation.

The other place you might see a problem is where the hose connects to the handle itself. There are 3 wires that attach from the hose. This is a bit tricky to remove as it's basically a force fit and take some effort to remove.
