Not if your using the correct amount of HE detergent You have to start with the understanding that the tumble action of high-efficiency washers (i.e., front loaders) produce more suds than the agitator action in top loaders. Now most of people think, "Oooo, sudsy, that's good!" No, not good. Suds do nothing to clean your clothes and are actually an undesirable by-product of the detergent's chemical interaction with the water. The main job of detergents is to remove soils and stains. They do this by breaking down the surface tension of water, in effect, making water "wetter." The water is what actually does the cleaning by slipping in between the ca-ca and the fabric, separating them and suspending the ca-ca in solution.
Detergents are designed to freshen, remove odors, and brighten fabrics as they clean. Another key detergent function is to hold ca-ca, and any dyes from colored fabrics, suspended in the wash water so they aren't re-deposited back onto the cleaned clothes. Traditional detergents are designed to do this in high water volumes used by conventional, top-loading water hog washers.
If you think about it, using HE detergent in your front loader is really common sense. Because of the low-water wash and rinse cycles in HE washers, HE detergents must work differently from traditional laundry detergents in order to be effective.
Excess suds can cause the washer's pump to overheat causing premature failure of the pump. These excess suds also cause residue to build up inside the drum and hoses. After a while, your washer will start giving off a moldy funk and infecting your clothes with its faint, musky stink. Hope this Helps Good Luck

Sud error code

I found that mine was having a sud error. I removed the lower front panel and removed the filter. It was full of lint and loose change. I reinstalled the filter and haven't had a problem since. On a side note I found something interesting laying inside. A service tech guide wich stated to do exactly what I had done.

Rl on the control panel

The "rl" (remove load) error code appears when you are running the "Clean Washericon1.png" cycle. You must not have a load of clothes in the washer during this cycle. Remove the clothes from the drum, and restart the cycle. The "Sud" error indicates that the detergent is over-sudsing. The Duet washer automatically combats this by reducing the amount of suds in the washing machine. Let the washer finish the suds-reduction steps. Use less detergent during the next wash cycle.

Hi please go to this above link, it is all explained at length what is going on and what to do.

This error code indicates that excessive detergent suds occurred during the cycle.
If a "Sud" or "Sd" error code is displayed, or if you can see excessive suds in the window:
There are too many suds in the washing machine. The washer will not be able to spin out water with the excess suds. When "Sud" or "Sd" is displayed, the washer automatically extends the rinse time to remove the excess suds. During this time, the washer pauses the tumbling and adds water for additional rinsing. This pause allows the bubbles in the suds to break. This pause and rinsing are necessary and may occur several times to eliminate the suds. See the animation below for more information.
  • If you see "Sud" or "Sd" with the Rinse status light on, the washer is in the process of removing suds. Let the cycle continue.
  • If you see "Sud" or "Sd" and the Cycle Complete light is on, the washer detected too many suds during the cycle and your load may not be fully rinsed or water may not be fully removed. You may want to select a Rinse/Spin cycle for further rinsing.

SUD in display

The SUD message relates to overdose of detergent detected during the Wash Cycle. This may signify a bad pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent or excessive suds.If too much detergent was used, run the washer through a Rinse/Spin cycle, then a Normal cycle, without adding any detergent. This should clear the unit of the excess detergent. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.

How do you get the 'suds' to stop appearing on the screen. have tried rinsing but it wont let me.

SUDS = suds detected during wash cycle.
Do you see suds visible in the drum?

Do you have any other failure codes appearing?
Unplug unit and plug it back in attempt to run the rinse cycle. If it does not work it could be a clogged filter.
Remove lower front panel place a pan under the white filter. located near the pump. Remove the unit and clear any debris.

Water level too low. clother wet. No water visible or suds. What is wrong.

Your expectations are based on top load washers.
Front load washers use only a very little water, and suds are an enemy. (HE soaps are designed to clean without suds. Suds are really for show and cause drag on the wash tub during spin.) If you start a load with no clothes, you will see that the water level never gets above a couple inches in the tub. That is the correct water level for front loading machines. PS. Because of the low water use, make sure you use very little soap. (one to two tablespoons per load only!)

If you are using the recommended HE (High Efficiency) soap, you will not see alot of sudsing, this is normal. The washing action is very different than the top load machines. Excessive sudsing will cause issues with this machines operation.

Suds leaking from back of washer near top

Suds are not supposed to leak from the top; means you are not using the right detergent. Use front loading powders. You can open up the top during next wash to locate where the leak is coming from (after changing powder). I understand suds appear in the window during spin....but leak? Caution when machine works with top open!

rate if helped pl........
