The filter is in the drain at the bottom of the washing compartment. It only catches larger pieces of waste which could damage the pump impeller or block the waste outlet. Small to medium size pieces are pumped out to your food waste disposer (if it's connected to one) or directly to the drain.

How do you backflow a pool pump?

I assume you mean backwash the filter. The pump will always pump in one direction.

I am also assuming that you have a sand filter with a filter control valve.

If your filter's waste discharge needs a hose attached to route the discharge to a ditch or other suitable location, be sure to attach the hose before beginning this process.

Turn the pump off. Set the filter control valve to the backwash position. Turn the pump on and run for 30 sec to 1 minute until the water being discharged looks clear. If your filter control valve has a Rinse setting, turn the pump off, set it to Rinse and run the pump for about 30 sec. Turn the pump off. Set the Set the filter control valve back to Filter and turn the pump back on.

How do i change the sand in the filter? I am getting sand in my pool.

You will simply remove the old sand from your pool filter and follow the instructions from your users manual like you are adding sand for the first time. In case you don't have it, I am going to paraphrase it for you below.

1. Be sure correct amount of filter sand media is in tank and
that all connections have been made and are secure.
IMPORTANT: To prevent unnecessary strain on piping system and valving, always shut off pump before switching Filter Control Valve positions.
The correct amout of sand can be determined with this link: http://www.backyardcitypools.com/pool-filters/Filter-Sand-Requirements.htm

2. Set your controls to the backwash position.

3. Prime and start pump according to pump instructions. (be sure all suction and return lines are open), allowing the filter tank to fill with water.

4. Once water flow is steady out the waste line, run the pump
for at least 2 minutes. This initial backwashing of the filter is recommended to remove any impurities or fine sand particles in the sand media.

5. Turn pump off and set valve to RINSE position. Start pump and operate until water in sight glass is clear—about 1/2 to 1 minute. Turn pump off, set valve to FILTER position and restart pump. Your filter is now operating in the normal filter mode, filtering particles from the pool water.

6. Adjust pool suction and return valves to achieve desired
flow. Check system and filter for water leaks and tighten connections, bolts, nuts, as required.

7. Set your filter to the "filter" position.

Will not pump when it has a filter in it

filters are too good for pump system.

These pool pumps seam to over heat fast, no quick fix.

* Try getting more air flow around pump.
* Only use pump when using pool or near by.
* Use a pool cover - will help stop dirt/rubbish getting into pool - less to filter.

Fuel pump squeaking, filter resticted or pump failing?

Yes, it could be the fuel filter, but the pump may be on the way out also. Change the filter first. I have seen the pump get replaced and a noise still exists. It usually caused by the fuel filter.
