Question about Cuisinart Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I bought a Cuisinart breakmaker BMKR-200. I have made several breads all very good. Only one recipe does not succeed. It's the low carb buttermilk bread. It does not rise at all. After the first bad experience I tried again, thinking it was me but the second time, the break came out just as bad as the first one. I made sure the buttermilk was room temperature. What else should I do? Thanks

If it's heating at all, the element is probably good. If it is cooked partway, but not fully, that could be because it isn't rising. Make sure the dough is the right consistency before baking, as a different flour could have a different moisture content, thus requiring a different amount of water. Make sure there is sugar in the dough for the yeast to "eat" or it will not rise. If all else fails, try other yeast. Your can also test the yeast by proofing it. Put a teaspoon of the yeast in a cup of warm water with a teaspoon of sugar. It should foam and bubble in 5 minutes or so. You can find more detailed directions on testing the yeast by searching "proofing yeast" on a search engine. Good luck.

Here is a great website to find manuals... This link takes you straight to the West Bend section...
HOWEVER - they want you to pay for the manuals (9.99 for it!).... So, I continued searching and found this site.
Hopefully you will have luck finding what you are searching for at this site - it is free......

We have been delighted with our breakmaker until lately when the paddle stays inside the bread when we lift it out of the breadmaker. When we retrieve the paddle this leaves a large hole in the bottom...

You haven't stated the make and model, but your problem is entirely normal operation on most breadmakers. In your case it's likely to be due to some wear in whatever holds the paddle onto the shaft, but to determine the exact cause is impossible by remote diagnosis as it requires a physical examination of the parts, sorry.

Remote fault diagnosis has it's limitations, unfortunately.

I have just bought a Panasonic SD-155 bread maker after advise from my mum who owns a different model. On checking the ingredients Mine says teaspoons of suger ad no milk power and hers says tablespoons of...

Maybe... It all comes down to individual taste, just use what works and suits you; like all cookery it's not an exact science. The wrong recipe won't break your machine, it'll just be a bad loaf or sometimes a happy accident which produces better results than expected.

Regular bread recipes don't usually include milk powder, just flour, water and yeast, at the most basic and usually sugar (mainly to get the yeast activated) and a little salt, but it depends upon what you're making.
