First thing to do is enter the default code that is listed in your owners manual. This will turn off the anti theft system. If you have turned it off and are still experiencing this problem then you will need to pull the error codes and see what is keeping your theft system activated. It will either be a PATS module or the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) A scan tool should be able to pull the trouble codes from both modules. Usually the dealer scan tool is more updated and able to read all modules. Click on the link below to view the 2000 Ford Excursion owners manual:

Honestly you should send it into the dealer. I don't think guessing will help you. Typically it is a dirty connection into the steering column (behind the ignition key) But diagnostics need to be run and a look at the VSS system (through a good scan tool) is needed to confirm.

2000 Ford Excursion diesel when shut off interior and running board lights stay lit for long period of time or won't go out at all which in turn causes the cars battery to go dead.

You have a door ajar switch sticking in one of the doors. Start with the drivers door, open door and spray a liberal amount of WD40 into the latch on the side of the door. Then open and close the doors firmly several times. This usually unsticks them.

check for a recall on the crank position sensor, it will make it stall also the fuel transfet pump might be getting weak, it is on the frame rail just under the drivers door it keeps pressure up in the line and when they get hot might not keep pressure up.dont listen to anyine sayong to spray AMYTHING down the throat .there are electronics in the air line into the air cleaner and at minimum kill a sensor but starting fluid and the like are extremely flamable and the 6.0l engine has a intake heater and will ignite the fluid and cause a explosion. yes it does happen, Im a diesel mechinic for 20 years.I have a 2000 diesel w/ 7.3. did you get a check engine lite on when it started or shut down?
