Question about Acer Aspire 5315-2713 Notebook

Acer Aspire 5315-2713 Windows XP Boot fails, Safe Mode fails, XP intstall disk fails at Examining Hard Drive. DOS boot says no C: drive. Network Command promt boot from my other PC works but no C: drive? C: must be there for normal boot to show XP logo and menu for Safe Mode, etc. Tried XP boot CD with Acer driver extenstions and it fails. Why would normal boot start and detect (prompt) about last fail? All kick back to restart from BIOS.

    Selecting Recovery and new lnstall both fail causing reboot. I see examining xxMB hard drive just before reboot, then hard drive boot offers XP safe mode/normal boot/etc and all choices do reboot

If the BIOS does not detect the hard drive, the computer won't boot up because the Windows operating system is on the hard disk.
Try re-seating the hard drive to make sure it makes proper connection, when you boot up again and the hard drive is not detected then most likely the hard drive has failed.
To get the Acer operating again, replace the hard drive, install Windows and the Acer device drivers plus your programs.

You can download the drivers from the Acer WEB site using a different computer and then install them on your notebook. Make sure you select the model of your laptop and the XP or Vista version of the drivers you that require and it matches the Windows version that is installed on your laptop.     BIOS shows all OK, boot C: drive gets XP boot and failure menu for Normal / Safe Mode, etc. So hard drive is booting XP and recognizing previous problem.

    You need to do a Windows Repair.
    Boot up with the Windows installation CD - follow the instruction to install Windows, do not select R to repair at this stage otherwise Windows will ask you to insert a floppy repair disk.
    A few steps further into the installation process you will be given a Repair option, select this option and Windows will copy fresh system files to the hard disk. You will also need to insert the product installation code, this code is on the Windows label on the bottom of your computer. You may also need to Activate your Windows program.

    If all fails then your need to do a fresh Windows install as I suggested in my first answer.

    Hard drive boots and give XP menu that last boot failed and asks for "Normal Boot", "Safe Mode", etc. Can't be bad drive.

Try running the Check Disk Utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents,music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

Your system is trying to boot to a Network Boot (PXE Boot is the way corporations image systems on the network with a corporate image) most likely this is due to the hard drive in your system failing and not being detected as a boot device (PXE boot is normally set as an option to boot after trying the hard drive then the optical drive)
You can try re-seating the hard disk drive then resetting the BIOS defaults and see if the hard drive is detected and boots, if that fails, then most likely the hard disk drive has failed and you will need to replace the drive, then re-install Windows, all drivers, and all applications.

I want to reformat my aver aspire 4520 laptop, which runs on vista, to run on windows xp. none of the ways i found on the internet helped me as i either couldn't find the function required or it wasn't...


During the boot process you will see on the screen to press delete to enter setup

Press and hold delete during the boot up process to enter BIOS the scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

this will erase you operating system you have to have a operating system disk to load it onto you hard drive or create a partition to load another operating system

(note after you have loaded the operating system you must go back and change the first boot device to your hard drive)

If you have a windows XP disk you can use that to format your hard drive if you know how to use dos you can also but your easy and best way put your xp disk in and boot it will come up to section on how you want to format hard drive and good luck

I have no keyboard input on my Acer 5672 when Windows XP boots in normal mode. Keyboard words fine in safe mode.


Suggest you, in Safe Mode, attempt to recover your computer's Operating System from the disks provided with your computer. Place the disk into the drive and reboot. The computer SHOULD boot from the DVD and restore your Operating System.

My Acer aspire one wont start into normal windows, only safemode


Did your system come with any software? I know when I bought my aspireone it did not. However, You can purchase a thumbdrive with at least 4 gb of space and if you have a copy of windows xp of the same version as that which is loaded on your aspireone (should be windows xp home edition) and you can use a program like magicISO to create a copy of the windows xp cd onto the thumbdrive.

My Acer Aspire 1 gets stuck when the Windows XP logo apears and just keeps booting, what can I do?


Hard Drive error on the Disk most likely... Try to go to Windows "Safe Mode"... pressing F5 before you see the XP Logo and after you see the system information screens. Once in safe mode... run ScanDisk.
Open My Computer | Right Click C Drive | Left Click Properties | Tools Tab Run Check Disk for Errors... also check mark both boxes.

Doesn;t boot even in safe mode


if is not start in safe mode you must need to winxp recovery disk to repair windows xp.
Boot your computer with winxp disk then repair it.

Hi Michael,
Its possible to reformat your hard drive by using a DOS boot floppy disk or CD. You can create this disk on another pc then boot your pc from this disk. It will boot your pc to a DOS prompt, usually "C:>" from there you can create partitions, delete partitions and format the hard drive. The command for creating partitions is FDISK.exe. Make sure your boot disk has the FDISK.exe command on it.
