Question about D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G122 802.11g/b Wireless Adapter

2 Answers

I have a wireless modem for a PC and laptop, but because i do not have a telephone jack where my PC is i am using a d-link wireless adapter. The distance from my PC and the modem is about 20-25 feet. For the past few weeks my PC drops from internet although the connection to the modem is working. I also have a laptop that never drops from the internet even though my PC does. Any ideas

The wireless card in the PC may not be as good as the one in laptop or the signal strength is weaker where the PC is located.
Try moving the D-Link around or in a higher location to improve the signal strength.
The PC may be near a source of interference such as a microwave oven.

Use a 2-wire or 4-wire cable to connect from the telephone-jack to the telephone-port on your DSL modem/router combination device.

Use an 8-wire Ethernet cable to connect from one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to the network-port on your laptop.

Then, you will have Internet access, and, if this router also has a "wireless" capability, you can configure it to provide wireless access to your computer(s).

We bought the AT&T Motorola DSL Modem today, and we're trying to connect to wireless on a laptop and the connection isn't showing up. How do we fix this ?

  1. Ensure that your AT&T DSL self-installation kit is complete. At minimum, it should contain a DSL modem, an AC adapter, an Ethernet cable, a telephone cable, several telephone filters and an installation CD.
  2. Install the telephone filters on each telephone jack that you have a phone plugged into. Install a dual phone adapter on the jack closest to your computer if you have an answering or fax machine, telephone or analog modem in the same room. Then plug your telephone equipment into the filters. Connect the telephone cable that was provided with your installation kit into an unfiltered telephone jack.
  3. Insert the installation CD into your CD-ROM drive. If the installation program does not start automatically, click Start > Run > and browse to the CD-ROM drive directory to find the installation file.
  4. Connect the telephone cable that is attached to the unfiltered wall jack to the back of the DSL modem. Connect the Ethernet cable to the back of the modem and to the Ethernet network interface card port on the back of your computer. Connect the AC adapter to the back of the modem and plug it into an electrical outlet. Power the modem on.
  5. Check the modem lights. There should be at least two lights lit. These will have labels such as "Power" and "Ethernet." However, these labels may differ depending on the model of modem you received in your installation kit.
  6. Complete the software installation. Enter your chosen username and password when prompted. Check your modem to see if the light labeled "DSL" or "Internet" is lit. Open a web browser window to see if your DSL service has been successfully installed.

Connection to phone line

do you see two phone jacks in your modem? you probably already know w/c jack is for the incoming (the one where you connect the phone line when you try to surf). so all you need is to get a spare telephone line/cord. connect that to the other jack in your modem and from there to your phone.

direct route from phone line to modem to phone unit. no extensions and no splitters.

How can i connect my desktop computer to the internet plz i need someone to help

Currently, the most common way to connect a desktop system to the internet, is by using the network jack to connect to a broadband cable modem or DSL modem. To do either you must have the service from either you cable provider or phone company (For DSL) and have the modem device for the service. Fees run $20 to $50 a month depending on speed you subscribe.
You connect the device to the system using a CAT5 network cable to a RJ45 (8 wire telephone type jack). Some Cable/DSL modems also have USB connection capability for the few systems these days that do not have a built in RJ45 connector To use them, you install the associated software, then connect the USB cable when prompted.
If you don't have Cable/DSL then dial up telephone modem is the next option, this requires a telephone modem that has an RJ11c telephone cord jack connection, most current computers only have a telephone modem as an option, but they can still be bought for around $20 and you will require a dial up internet service (Few remain, one is Netzero in the USA)

I need internet on yy pc card

You need an ADSL Modem & a Broadband connection. You run a cable from the Ethernet connection to the Modem/Router, and that connects to the telephone line, and then onto the internet.

When i am connecting my reliance net setter huwaei 3g modem it shows an error 678

hi alkam49...
This is most common problems. It is due to poor connectivity. Problem can be anywhere between B.RAS - Tier 2 - DSLAM - Modem - PC of the customer.
Switch off / Switch on Modem (Power Switch at the back of modem ) and wait for 2 minutes. Then retry.

If problem is not solved then Reset Modem [Back pin (in the hole) to be pressed in switched ON condition]
[Note : Link PC in black type Modem or WAN / LAN in white type Modem will go Off and then ON and system may be stable. Then retry.
If problem is still not solved then
a)Check link lamp in Black type Modem or WAN lamp in White Modem. If it is blinking, then it is line problem.
b)Check Modem to splitter connectivity.
i) Jack in & Jack out the cable of / to the modem and to the splitter
ii)Jack in & Jack out the telephone connection of the splitter.
If lamp is still blinking - then it is due to poor line condition / fault.
The case has to be referred to Area Broadband Team for attending the fault.
try this and get going...
post comment for any further assistance.
thanks.

Any internal or external modem less than 10 years old will support FAX-ing through it.

Telephone wall jack <--- telephone splitter --> telephone cord <--> modem

Wireless MODEM for Internet connection compatibility with Laptop

Compaq/HP laptops that have a builtin wireless adapter have a wireless transmitter symbol near the bottom edge of the LCD screen.
If you don't have a wireless adapter you need either a PCMCIA or a USB wireless adapter. My choice would be a PCMCIA type because it frees up a USB port for other devices.
