P/N DV135U#ABA Hi there Is it possible to change out the motherboard on this machine to an upgrade with a more powerful video/graphics card as I need one with a pixel shader. Or is it possible to somehow replace the existing video/graphics card to one that will support direct x 9? Thankyou

My son saved up and bought a Gateway SX2855-UB12P. We have upgraded to 8MB of RAM and now are looking to upgrade the video card which currently is a PCI Express x16 Graphics. Given his machine is a en

Hope you mean upgraded ram to 8 GB 8 mb is not much ram to run a computer.

To upgrade your computer's graphics card, unfortunately you can't just simply purchase a card and install it to your computer. Before purchasing a card, you must first confirm what is compatible with your motherboard. Graphics cards use either AGP or PCI Express technology. Many older computers use AGP. AGP cards can vary in version and bandwidth, whereas PCI Express cards can vary based on their lane . Moreover, the card itself is not your only consideration when looking to upgrade your computer's graphics. You must also consider the strength of your computer's power supply as well, since most newer cards use a lot of power. Download, install and run SiSoftware's Sandra (see link Below) to find out information on your motherboard. http://download.cnet.com/SiSoftware-Sandra/3000-2086_4-10556571.html Click the "Mainboard Information" icon, then write down the information next to "Manufacturer" and "Model." Navigate to the motherboard manufacturer's website. If you are not sure of the website's URL, enter the manufacturer's name into a search engine to find the company's website. Go to the support page and enter your motherboard's model. Download the motherboard's manual or review the specifications. Search the manual or specifications for "Expansion slot," "AGP" or "PCI Express." If the expansion slot uses AGP, note the version (AGP comes in 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0), as well as the bandwidth (1x, 2x, 4x or 8x). If the expansion slot uses PCI Express, note the amount of lanes (x1, x4, x8 or x16). Search the manual or specifications for "Power," "PSU" or "Power Supply." Write down the power supply's voltage (3.3V, 5V or 12V) and amp rating (designated by "A"). Not all manufacturers list the amp rating in their documentation, so you may need to contact the manufacturer for more assistance. Compare the graphics card you want to buy to the motherboard's expansion slot. AGP cards won't work in motherboards using PCI Express, and vice versa. Similarly, AGP 3.0 cards won't work in motherboards using AGP 1.0. A PCI Express x8 card will not fit in a PCI Express x1 slot. Check the voltage and amperage of the video card to the voltage and amperage on your motherboard. A video card that requires a higher amp rating requires a powerful PSU. Hope this helps.

I want to upgrade my graphics card for my laptop whats the best one to get

Hi, how are you?

Laptop do not use graphics card. The usually have the graphic chip integrated into their motherboards.

There are laptops designed for gaming. Alien Laptops or Asus Laptops are few of them.

So, upgrade to graphics card for laptops... hard.

You can increase performance by upgrading memory.

God Bless You!!!

Hope it helps.

Hi, I have an Acer Aspire 5336 2524 computer and I was wondering if it were possible to upgrade the video card so I can play some more graphically intense games. Also, I was wondering if there was any...

I am not sure as i am having the same problem, also are you using a laptop if so there is a small chance of changing the card as most are built on the motherboard. If all does not seem upgradable the other option is replacing the whole motherboard but with a better video-card(graphics-card) but this can cost almost as much as the laptop itself. If your using a Computer there is a huge chance of changing the card. Any other questions just email me at guitarhero1@ntlworld.com

Is it possible to upgrade my e-machines 4260 with a grapics card??

Hi:
at the bare minimum, you can upgrade it with a PCI graphics card. That would plug into one of your spare white PCI slots, and they make those with atleast 256mb of memory ( When shopping for one, dont confuse a PCI video card with a PCI express card) I couldn't find enough info on what exact board you have, as they used several, but many had a brown AGP memory slot, which is a better option for you. Keep in mind, also, that if you upgrade the video card and memory , you might need to upgrade your power supply too, due to the higher current requirements of the new card and memory.

If all else fails, bring your tower to a computer shop, and they will usually tell you what you need for free, with hopes to sell a upgrade!

Can I install new video in my laptop?!!! My compaq presario CQ60 209 tu has integreted video card GMA 4500M. how is it possible? Someone on this site told me to replace my video card!!!

Video cards on laptops are on the motherboard, therefore it is not possible to change the video card, also there are not expansion slots for inserting a graphics card.
The video card usually uses shared memory ie. uses part of the main memory. It is possible to upgrade with more main memory and increase the available video RAM in the BIOS configuration.

Can't play games

It is not a problem with your motherboard unless your video is on-board. This is not normally the case. Your video card has limited memory and should be upgraded.

Looking to upgrade video. is there a limit to uprade old mboard

Only cards that work with this board are AGP 4x graphics cards or possiblly AGP 8x cards that are backwards compatible. If you buy an 8x card do your research to make sure it's backwards compatible before purchase. Newer graphics cards are pci-express x16 or pci-e 2. These will not work with your board. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Graphics card interface

The regular way is by accessing the inside of PC, reading the numbers on motherboard, or on AGP/PCI video card, and looking on google for the model.

An alternative is using software, even if this does not even work. See:

Do you have the 6-pin PCI-E power connector attached to the new video card? If you do it's possible you power supply is insufficient and may need to be upgraded.
